The First Tone That Made You Say... "Whoa!"

That one guitarist, I think his name is Salem, forget the band...

when he plays above the 15th fret on the high E string on his TAG cobra, the note seems to "bloom" into a louder, shrill ear-piercing sound. This happens regardless of his pickup setting or volume level.

It makes me go Whoa. I think his stage name is Screech.

Early on it probably was Pink Floyd Wish you were Here and Animals, and Jethrol Tull. Minstrial in the Gallery.

For bass it had to first be Tom Petersson and the the opening to Running with the Devil - Van Halen.

Al DiMeola's Elegant Gypsy.

I've experienced simulated levitation while playing along with it.

Angus' lead on Shook Me All Night Long. I think Angus gets too much credit for their tone, whereas Malcom plays hollow body with 13 gauge strings.

Hey Joe on Hendrix's Live at Monterey. Very underrated album. Turned music on it's head.

Skynyrd T for Texas One More From the Road.

Neil Young Southern Man. Pushes a 30 W Fender to the max.

Clapton's Just One Night.

Bob Dylan Live at Budakon.

Music produced during the 70's. Call me old school.

I did not appreciate Metallica till I received a free ticket to drive to the Black Album concert.

LZ - Heartbreak was a pretty heavy memory, but the first would be when I bought La Grange on 45. After about 4 repeats, I flipped it over and played Just Got Paid. That was my first 'whoa', first air guitar and the first time a parent knocked on the door asking me to turn it down. Jackpot!

I remember as if it were yesterday....1978 High School art class senior year...The opening riff to "you really got me"..not knowing it was Van Halen and thinking the Kinks did one hell of a remake...Then my buddy informed of who it was......Damn....almost 30 years ago....I'm sooo old!!!!!! lol!!

Well, the first time I heard my older brother rip a tremendous fart in our school's auditorium, I must say I was quite impressed.

The man had natural tone.

You can't teach that kind of tone...

There were lots of good ones early on that got my attention, like in...

Sweet Hitch-hiker

Bang-a-Gong

Come Together

Mississippi Queen

Schools out - No More Mr. Niceguy

Hey Joe

Smoke on the Water

Black Dog - Stairway to Heaven

But I'd have to say the one tone that cut me the deepest when first heard was in...

La Grange by ZZ Top

Was Ridin' along side the highway, rollin' up the country side.

Thinkin' I'm the devil's heatwave, what you burn in your crazy mind?

Saw a slight distraction standin' by the road;

She was smilin' there, yellow in her hair;

Do you wanna, I was thinkin', would you care.

Sweet Hitch-a-Hiker,

We could make music at the Greasy King.

Sweet Hitch-a-Hiker,

Won't you ride on my fast machine?

Anybody know what guitar/amp that is?

The first time I heard Danny Cedrone play the solo on Rock around the Clock for Bill Haley and the Comets. Obviously a recorded version other wise I'd be to old to breath.

I still think it is one of the coolest guitar solo's ever.......Followed by some of Chet Atkins work.

Here's some of his work, obviously the band was syncing to a tape.

Good question.

Fogerty sure was fond of his black Les Paul Custom and the old Kustom transisterized amps.

AC/DC Live

Zaak's tone on No More Tears (after that it was just more of the same)

SRV's first solo on Tightrope at the 1989 Austin City Limits performance

SRV's Voodoo Chile from the 1983 Austin City Limits performance

(semi shameless plug, but true none the less)-- the first chord I played though the first amp I built was jaw dropping.
