Without seeing the whole thing, maybe "good" or "very good'? 6/10-7/10?

I think that's too generous - even without seeing the whole guitar (by the way: worst pictures ever).

Even if the parts of the guitar that we can't see are mint mint, the guitar is banged up on every edge and corner visible in those photos.

Not that I'm against that kind of thing, mind you, but if the question is about "condition," from what I can see, it's a 5/10 - tops.

OK, I added a few more of the "worst pictures ever". Not well represented are the worming on the back, numerous "pings" on the top, the scratched up pickguard and busted pickup mounting ring. Sorry if the pics suck, but I took them in a manner that would show the finish issues rather than try to go for the soft, fuzzy "porno" type pics that can make things look good even if they are not. Plus I'm rushed and pissed as hell. Z

Did you buy it after it was misrepresented? The far-away shot did not look bad. The close-ups were not horrible but it definitely has some wear that looks to be through to the wood. Nothing that looked structurally damning, but still things that I would want to know ahead of time before buying it.

how much are they asking?

This is something that arrived at my home today. I made the colossal mistake of not asking for detailed pics and it was described to me both in the ad and on the phone as both "pristine" and "mint". Anyone here see anything close to either of those descriptive terms in the pics? I took a fellow HFC member's word for it and feel like a total TOOL for doing so.

Here is the qoute from the ad, cut and pasted:

"Next, a pristine pre lawsuit Korina(ash) Ibanez Destroyer, pre serial number, mint!!!

You don't see these at all, esp in this condition."

I'm not gonna name any names and give this person a chance to reply to my phone call and email messages, but I wanted some objective opinion on condition. I know it's neither "pristine" or "mint", but I also put it somewhere in the 5/10 range and that makes a BIG difference to me where the price I paid is concerned. Thanks for your opinions so far. Z

It looks like you bought a "Bar Band Warrior", not a museum piece. Chips, dings, doinks & scrapes in all the right places on a pointy, gigged guitar.

How does it play?

pristine and mint? somebody needs a new dictionary. well worn and significantly dinged up is more like it.

Seller's description is pretty unconscionable in my book....

Jamie

I would agree. I would also definitely either ask for my money back (including shipping) or a significant reduction if you would want to keep it. If it were me, the bitter taste in my mouth would be too much for me to TRULY enjoy the guitar unless I got a super deal on it when it was all said and done. I try to be totally honest about everything when I sell stuff. If something minor gets by me, I do what I can to make it alright. But I am would be a bit reluctant to believe that the guy thought it was mint and just happened to overlook chips in the finish. I suppose it could be a misunderstanding (just trying to give the guy and whomever vouched for him the benefit of a doubt), but it sure does not look that way.

Get a rebate, and good luck.

Are the pickups original or just w/o covers?

I would say 5/10 myself. I had one of those that was in better condition than that. It was a good player and a good guitar. I have one of the original Super 70's pickups for that if you need one let me know.

well, that's far from being pristine, I like guitars like that, kinda played hard, and I know someone who'd probably buy it if it's a 1977, but yea, that sucks being lied too.

Never buy a guitar listed as MINT without skepticism.

Basically because, Mint is an overused term that most people do not have a clear definition of what mint is.

Mint means absolutely perfect in every possible way with absolutely NO FLAWS whatsoever. Even new objects can not reach this classification.

There is no such thing as "mint for it's age"

And anyone who uses the term "Mint for it's age" is a bullshit artist and totally untrustworthy and deserves a kick in the groin.

Nice Destroyer.

It is in far better condition than mine.

It's a nice looking git, but to call it MINT is BS. When I sold my LP Custom

last year on ebay, I rated it as 7.5 to 8. It was really a solid 9 / 9.5, but

I didn't want to get an email from a buyer complaining about me over-selling it.

Did you have any pics to look at before you bought the Destroyer?

By those pics, maybe half of the damage COULD be from shipping - if it was extremely poorly packed and/or it fell out of the box or case.

That would leave the other half - which looks like some pretty old wounds.

I don't mind a beat up guitar either, but not when paying a 'pristine' price.

A 5/10 is pretty generous.

Well, the seller contacted me and offered a return of my $$$ or an adjustment, so I guess I have a couple options. The trouble with this is these things don't pop up often and I have no idea how far down the price scale the condition takes it. At least there is a recognition that it was not in fact mint or pristine. It would have been a realization of a long pursuit if it was as nice as represented, but it still is a killer guitar, and I have been looking for a nice one for close to 10 years. What to do. Z

So I just took a gander over at Ebay to see if a Lawsuit Destroyer has been up recently and found the cleanest one I have seen since I began looking has just ended @ $2600!! Jesus that seems like a bunch of $$ and now I'm wondering if what I paid isn't too far out of line. There is a pink one too with an extra pickup at $600 and no bids, but does anyone want to guess what sort of price below the $2600 for a super clean one I should have paid? I have to admit it really is a killer playing guitar that rings like crazy, but I still have a bad taste about expecting something very clean and getting something well used. Thanks. Z

If you get a decent price adjustment and end knowing you got it as a steal, that might take that bitter taste out of your mouth. Only you know for sure though. Best of luck whatever route you take.
