kurtsstuff Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Yup...I bet John Mayer is the high bidder
santellavision Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 I know Todd and I just emailed him. I'd like to know what he thinks? Oh, if you guys ever need serious amp repair or restoration, Todd Sharp of Nashvile Amplifier Service is a god.
MCChris Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Yup...I bet John Mayer is the high bidderAre you the seller? lol
seeker Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Yeah, this comes up when almost every Dumble comes up for sale, but the market will support it or not. Why are good muscle cars now tens of thousands? I could get one for 600-1000 bucks when they were a just few years old.Personally am not a big fan of all-things Dumble. But, if I had the cash, I'd snap up a Ken Fischer Trainwreck in a VA-minute. Brad Paisley did. That makes it ok, doesn't it? LOL.

alpep Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 I have played 3 different dumbles they are really nice. but not worth the ton of cash they are going for I would prefer an old fender and put a good overdrive in front of it or an underground 30.

Have never played even one, but sonically there are a few pedals that are getting darn close (if not there). Now, a Trainwreck Express on the other hand . . .
cmatthes Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Paul Smith had just picked one up right before the "Experience PRS" shindig a few months ago. He commented that although his head was less than $50k (I think he said he paid @ $35k for it), he had already received several offers for over $60K THAT DAY. Guess all those Docs and Lawyers want to look like they sound like Stevie Ray Vaughn...
bubs_42 Posted November 20, 2007 Author Posted November 20, 2007 If only I had a time machine... You can borrow mine after I get it back from the shop. Damn Flux Compasider !
Guest Mike Lee Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 I've never played a Trainwreck or a Dumble, but I did try an Alessandro something-hound with two EL-34's and a Marshall type tone stack. I believe the amp was Trainwreck-inspired because it responded in the same way. Incredible tone through a Marshall 4x12 and it cleaned right up with the guitar volume knob. I've never played anything quite like it since.

santellavision Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 Here's a pic of Howard (Hughes) Dumble. Not many have actually seen him in person.

MCChris Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 That "my way or the highway," Soup Nazi approach played a HUGE part in the cult of personality he created around himself, and thus the value of his products. Brilliant marketing really, whether that was his intent of not.Kind of like how we're attracted to a certain guitar maker that says "no" 100 times to a custom option and then says "yes" the 101st time. The frustration of dealing with people like that is oddly attractive.
MrGuitarguy Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 Hmmm, or I could have one of every model by Bogner, Diezel, Egnater, Demeter, etc. with matching 1x12, 2x12 and 4x12 cabs and still have enough money left over to buy a NEW car. Hmmm.... what should I do....
