Ovation Elite T Opinions (NHC)

I was in New York this past weekend and I grudgingly tried out an Ovation Elite T in the Guitar Center by my brother's house. Wow! It didn't slip off my lap like the last Ovation I tried (which prevented me from picking up another one for years) and it had an awesome, deep sound. I don't think it's just me because it was about the 4th guitar I tried and my wife, who was talking about how ugly it was when I was pulling it off the wall, was encouraging me to buy it inside a minute.

Anybody else have experience with these?

Yes, they are very nice. I don't own the textured version, but have a 1989 Elite with natural AAA spruce top. Even though mine is a super-shallow bowl, it sounded better than anything else in the store (from $79 Jay Jr.s all the way up to top dollar MarTayGibDers).

Check out the Ovation Fan Club (http://www.ovationfanclub.com) for reviews, and an acoustic version of 'The Outer Circle.' (OK, not really. Sorry, Al, I was just kidding!)

I have one and absolutely love it. I have compared it with acoustics costing several times the price with favorable results. The only one I thought sounded and played equally well was a Taylor 814CE (at approximately 4X the price). My wife still preferred the Ovation though. Some people think Ovations sound better to the listener that to the player because of the soundholes. That may be true to some degree. My next GAS attack will probably be for the 12-string version.

I gotta say, when I started working retail I was NEVER an Ovation guy. However, with each Ovation that comes through the door I'm more sold on them and I guarantee the next acoustic in my personal collection will be an Ovation.

Well, based on all the comments, it looks like my initial impression wasn't off-base. I'll have to see about picking one up.
