generic Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Hello All, New guy here, so please forgive me if I broke some unwritten code by posting this! This is the first & only Hamer instrument I have ever owned, and I must say it is absolutely amazing! If all Hamers are like this, I'm gonna get the Hamer logo tattooed somewhere inappropriate I have recently been in contact with Hamer regarding this fairly undocumented bass, trying to get some info, and Kim (from Hamer) informed me of this sweeeet forum, and suggested that I post some pics of my bass. So, this is my introduction, and here is the instrument. Enjoy!
Feynman Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 What is this, "New guys with insanely awesome Hamers week"?!Welcome, and wow!Edited to add: Where do they put the serial numbers on those?
hamerhead Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 That's one of the coolest basses I've ever seen. Excellent. What is this, "New guys with insanely awesome Hamers week"?!They're starting to make us look bad!

I know of two others that fellow HFC'ers own. Hamer didn't make alot of them (I would think around a dozen total) and except for the few one-offs they might have done this was the only true neck thru hamer made. As seen in the 90's Hamer guitar catalog. Peter.
Jimbilly Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Whoah!!! Stunning!!! You get my vote for new member of the year just for those photos.
Mad Man Mike Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Newbees should not be allowed to have git fiddles like that one. Does he not know that he has to give it over to us to do a check it out thing for him. It maybe to much for him to handle. Plus we have to give it the stamp of approvel as well. I will be first in line to check it out for him.Welcome aboard newbee and enjoy your vist here.
Thundernotes Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Very nice and very rare! Welcome to the HFC!
GusS Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 If all Hamers are like this, I'm gonna get the Hamer logo tattooed somewhere inappropriate don't dude, they're really not!
serial Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 VERY nice! Yes, as Peter mentioned, MAYBE a dozen made, although I have yet to even see or hear of half that number in total. They were the definition of overbuilt for Hamer. Even at the top of the price lists, they were probably losing a good bit of $$ on each unit. I had a raw blank from one (the neck-thru section, truss rod and pao ferro fingerboard) and the wood was stunning. Simply beautiful.WELCOME aboard!
mirrorimij Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 That looks gorgeous. I've never seen one in person.
MCChris Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Those are incredible. I know RJoseph133 found one in a pawn shop or low-profile music store in Chicago for dirt cheap.
cmatthes Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 I've got a Japanese documentary that another HFC'er sent me that was made around the time that bass came out. There's a good deal of footage of a Chicago session bassist working out on one of those as well as some detailed overviews. I should probably find a way to get that converted from VHS to a digital format, eh?Very cool bass, and one of the only neck-through Hamers ever built.
Siaip Ciuvas Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 WOW, WOW, WOW! this wants me to play bass Welcome!
mhmike Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 DANG DUDE! I don't play bass either, but that's a friggin' beaut.
generic Posted December 11, 2008 Author Posted December 11, 2008 Thanks for the compliments, folks! I dabble a little in photography as well, so its nice to be able to combine two passions like this . I absolutely love this bass, but theres one problem - I have no idea how to value it, or where to take it to get appraised. I want to insure it, due to its rarity, but I can't find anyone who knows anything about it. And considering that I only paid $300 for it, I know that I won't be able to replicate the deal ever again. Any suggestions?
MCChris Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 And considering that I only paid $300 for itAllow me to be the first to say ..... YOU SUCK!
Jones Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Allow me to be the first to offer you $350 for it.
