veatch
A bit of a stretch for this forum, but for the builders out there, this is one insane top:eBay - Redwood
atquinn
Hmm, I find that figuring a bit disturbing myself. Someone should make a metal shredder out of it -Austin
BubbaVO
Wow. Gorgeous. Is that something you'd use as a veneer or would that be the guitar body?
crabby
Wow. Gorgeous. Is that something you'd use as a veneer or would that be the guitar body?It says it's 1/4" think so it would have to be for a top. I like it!

Rhys
It's got a really strange 3D quality to it - it looks like an electron microscope picture of lung tissue or something equally unpleasant... or the pictures of the Red Weed from the illustrations for Jeff Waynes "War of the Worlds" album. edgar_allan_poe
I have never liked that type of figuring. Is burl really redwood? I don't think they are the same thing, but I could be wrong. If you were going with redwood, Nik Huber can't be touched.
cmatthes
If it's redwood, it can be burled. Not real crazy about that figure myself either.
HamerHokie
You could make a Lungcaster.
ArnieZ
Too chaotic for me, don't like it at all. Have to wonder if the wood could even vibrate straight It does look like something out of Histology lab! ArnieZ
santellavision
Gregger may get mad at me for posting this, but here's my nearly finished Redwood Huber that will be featured at the NAMM show. (No burst/clear-coat yet)

veatch
It's an incredibly interesting top. My first reaction was also that it looked too eerie, but the more i looked at it, the more i wondered how it would look on a guitar. In the end, i didn't bid. Redwood is hard enough to work with, i can't imagine how *that* piece will work. With my remedial skills, i'd end up making toothpicks out of it. (and i need another project like a hole in the head...) The same seller sold this top (CLICK) a while back, which is a little more interesting, but looks like from the same wood. I did get around to doing a Google and found a pic of a guitar with a redwood burl top. Again, interesting and unique: All "luncaster" aside, based upon that pic, i think i like it. Yes sir, i do. ...and speaking of Huber, here's a Huber with a burl redwood top:
