Sad song suggestions?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I was just wandering through my iTunes and noticed I don't have much in the way of sad songs. Any suggestions?

Almost any genre is okay (did they ever make any sad disco songs?) :D

Most of what I have in sad is country, no surprise there. But I put Please Call Home in sad because of the minor vibe, even though the lyrics are about hope.

So, either b/c of the lyrics or the sound, sad song suggestions, please!

Hiya!

Sad Bastard music happens to be a specialty of mine, so I wrote a good starter list for ya, in no particular order, ranging from classic country and modern folk through rock and others.

If you make it through the Shindell, I'll have a hotline number waiting for ya.

:D

Francis Ford Coppolla did an unusual movie called "One from the Heart" which featured a soundtrack with songs sung by Tom Waits and Crystal Gayle.

Almost the whole thing is sad, but especially good are:

Old boyfriends

I beg your pardon

This one's from the heart

Take me Home

Also +1 for whoever said "In My Life"

Sad in which sense? Love? Or just sad? In any case, these are some of the saddest songs that come to my mind:

Queen - Nevermore

Queen -

(have a listen to the
too)

Queen - Love of my life

Queen -

(though it's a hope song too there's also a lot of sadness on this one)

A couple of classic ones now:

The Beatles - Yesterday

The Beatles - Eleanor Rigby (it is almost creepy how I think of my aunt Raquel every time I listen to it)

Well, at this point you are already in tears, right? :D

Hiya!

Broke Down - Slaid Cleaves

Hey, Slaid is Swirlygirl Sid's cousin. I've met him a few times when he passes through town. He definitely knows sad.

Lucinda's got plenty of stuff too. Pineola springs to mind.

I remember being in first or second grade and all the girls on the playground were singing "Billy Don't Be A Hero", holding hands and crying.
