I am trying to get information on the Phantom guitars.

How many were made, and the different types that were offered in the 80's.

Thanks for the direction

The Phantom (1st version) evolved from the Cruise Bass body, used some of the ideas from the Prototype model, and was a vehicle for the short-lived in-house Hamer Sustain Block trem..

Phantom A5 (1st version) (1982 - 1984) - Contoured body with scratch plate, offset double cutaways and offset waist, 22-fret mahogany fixed neck (24.75 inch scale) and three-a-side peghead with Hamerlock tuners. Fitted with triple-coil pickup and scratch plate mounted single-coil. The bridge is either a Sustain Block tremolo or Sustain Block fixed bridge. Later guitars have optional Kahler Flat Mount locking trem.. Some twelve string versions were also built.

Phantom A5 (2nd version)(1984 - 1986) - Guitar is as above but has a six-on-a-side peghead and Kahler Flat Mount trem.. Early guitars have mahogany necks but changed to maple during 1985. Also available with added electronics as a synthesiser controller (Phantom A7).

Phantom GT (1984 - 1986) - Details as Phantom A5 (2nd version) but with a single Hamer Slammer humbucker and single volume control.

They should bring those two models back.

Close! but would they ACTUALLY should do is offer the six on a side headstock with a hard tail sustain block or Floyd Rose option ...

I'm not sure what trem the GT came with but the same goes there

Of course neither will 'appen.

As a side note I brought my A5 in yesterday for some minor intonation weirdness and my luthier picked it up. played it a bit and exclaimed >>> "Plays like buttah!":lol::lol:

The funny part is that he is an older, very serious, very conservative gentleman who has no idea what a joke/cliche that saying has become ... He was dead serious!

It turns out the the sustain block was either installed a bit crooked or moved over the years ... its about an 1/8 of an inch or slightly more, low, on the right hand side

He's going to fill the holes and remount the sustain block, plus put foam under the pickups to make them more stable ... $70 ... it's always sumtin'!

The Phantom GT came stock with a Kahler.

I've seen one with a Floyd.

I think Jol is not closed to the idea of re-issuing the Phantoms. If I remember well, he mentioned the subject on his Q&A thread when he was invited to the Duncan site, not so long ago.

What is possible is that you can have one built as a "one off", just like if you wanted a Californian.

Prices start around $10k.

I don't think you'll be seeing any Phantoms being released as an official re-release, since you can still easily buy them used in the $500 range.

So, it's then possible...

...but I don't think we'll see a new one built any time soon, right?

Well, I would love to see more Phantoms with 6-in-line headstocks for sale in that price range.

Any love for the latter day Phantom reissues that are shaped like the old Prototypes? Like my 1998 trans orange/tortoise Phantom Custom?

Props to Stike on the refin. Chex right down to the pickguard, incredible! The clear coats make the checkerbaord look like its its under a thick pane of glass. Dat boy Stike...skill & artistry.

Anybody out there know the serial# on this one? It disappeared somewhere among what appear to be "pre-Stike's" checkerboard refin. The original was that blue metallic color that Hamer liked to use on this model. Perhaps that info will help jog someone's memory.

When this arrived my 15 yo daughter roared "WOAH! Now THAT is punk! No offense Dad. All of your guitars are great guitars. But this one? No cowboy music, no blues, no oldies. PUNK and PUNK ONLY.

That's my girl!

I have an A-7 Model that came with all the Roland synth stuff on board and the big 24 pin and 1/4 dual purpose jack. 6 on a side tuners and a Kahler, original black finish. Got it from Mr. Fung. It's a lot of fun.

I have heard there were very few made, but don't know how many.

I have recently purchased one and would like a rough figure of how many were made too.
