gorch Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Taken from the Custom Guitar Galary #85: Taken from the Wall Photos #30 Although excellent tone wood, I am not a fan of limba when it comes to transparent lacquer. Anyhow, this one kills.
atquinn Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Done for NAMM a year or two back. Insanely expensive IIRC.-Austin
MCChris Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Done for NAMM a year or two back. Insanely expensive IIRC.-AustinProbably due to the BadgerDave-approved pickup selector switch.
zenmindbeginner Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Absolutely gorgeous guitar and I have NEVER heard of Limba wood before?!?!? But I ascertain that it is just the lightly pigmented form of what we know as Korina in the states? Why the hell did he choose creme pickup rings over white ones? Actually chrome or nickel rings would have looked pretty cool too. The rose colored speed knobs should have been clear in keeping with the arctic look in my opinion. It looks like one would need to actually see it in person to appreciate just how pretty the wood and trans white clear coat looks though.
atquinn Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 ... I have NEVER heard of Limba wood before?!?!? ...Limba is the actual taxonomic name for what Gibson called Korina. So Korina and black Limba (which looks cooler IMO) are the same thing. So, that's just "Korina" with a whitewash finish.-Austin
Feynman Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 I think that series was incredibly beautiful. If the rumored prices they went for were true, they were also incredibly expensive.
HSB0531 Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 It needs zebra pickup rings! Or black to match the binding maybe?
bbobb24 Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 the binding looks like tort to me, but maybe not....either way it's a very cool looking guitar!!
unfun75 Posted December 16, 2009 Posted December 16, 2009 I spec'ed a similar Studio a few years back. My specs were: opaque (not trans) white, tort body and headstock binding, & ebony board with dots. Hamer said "yes" with a price of $2,900. I couldn't afford it at the time, but I later bought a used white Studio here on the HFC.
