MCChris Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 I've enjoyed this piece of Hamer history for a few years. Now it's someone else's turn. Up for sale is a 1977 Sunburst, SN 7 0041. First one ever in natural, I'm told. Positively heavenly ONE PIECE baseball bat neck, thickest I've ever encountered on a Hamer. Other old school appointments include a sustain-block bridge with wood shim, Grover tuners and a narrow, elongated headstock. In very good but not original condition. The specifics: 1. Original DiMarzios long gone, replaced with zebra Rio Grande BBQ Bucker in bridge and zebra Rio Grande Genuine Texas in neck (had to gouge out a bit of wood in the cavity to get the neck pickup to fit; very crude DIY job but hey, you can't see it). 2. Original case also long gone. Guitar will ship in somewhat beat but fully functional (all latches work) rectangular case. 3. 4 mini-switch holes near volume/tone knobs plugged by BCR Greg, who owned the guitar prior to me. 4. Lots o' finish checking, buckle rash and a few minor dings here and there; this guitar has been played during its lifetime. No structural damage whatsoever. In great shape overall for a nearly 30-year-old guitar. My Ervin-esque terms LOL: 1. $1350 shipped to CONTINENTAL U.S. DESTINATIONS ONLY. I will lower the price $25 each day until someone commits to buy it by following through on term #2. 2. I can accept credit cards but not via Paypal; you'll have to call me with your CC info and I'll run it through my machine at the cafe (sales slip will be included with the guitar). Otherwise postal money order ONLY; no personal checks for this amount. 3. Below are the only photos of the guitar I have. If you want additional photos I'll need time to take them, but if someone decides to take the plunge based on these photos alone, I'm sellin'. Nothing to hide, I'm just lazy. Most recent photo (Rios installed; fat bald guy not included): Other photos (with original pickups): Questions? Commitments? E-mail me. Thanks!
serial Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 To my knowledge, this is the first NON-sunburst Sunburst made. The next one was Martin Barre's black one which came much later. This one is #7 0041 IIRC and has a killer neck on it.For an early Sunburst like this (there were only 95 or so made in '77) someone needs to grab it-it's a good one.Edited to add that that is the only non-sunburst '77 I know of. Barre's Sunburst was a '78.
kizanski Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 DAMN DAMN DAMN!!!I never thought this day would come! From what I understand, this is not only the 1st Natural finished Sunburst, but it is also the 1st Sunburst to not be finished in "Sunburst," if you can follow that...Anyone on the fence should try to think back on when the last time they saw a '77 Sunburst for sale.....I'll wait....What is the fret wear situation?Edited to add: Obviously, Serial types faster than I do.
MCChris Posted August 9, 2005 Author Posted August 9, 2005 Good points, guys. The SN is 7 0041. Fixed above. When I bought the guitar the frets appeared newish; perhaps Greg can confirm if it had a refret. I'm guessing it did. No significant wear to them in the time I've had it.
MCChris Posted August 9, 2005 Author Posted August 9, 2005 Sumpin' else I forgot ... NO TRADES! Selling to thin the herd.

bruce919 Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 My Ervin-esque terms LOL: I feel honored. I just sold so much stuff on the net. No matter how many terms you put on an ad, someone will find a loop hole.
MCChris Posted August 9, 2005 Author Posted August 9, 2005 Looks like the hackers fugged up the "e-mail through the board" functionality too. Never got mrhappy's original e-mail, so I tried e-mailing myself using the button below my posts. No go.Anywho, deal pending with mrhappy. Thanks Bob!
serial Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 I hear ya Bruce919. One of the main reasons I don't sell via eBay anymore is that no matter how many times you state in your auction that you will only ship to the lower 48, you get some jib from East India who is high bidder on your auction coming in at the last second. That's a PITA.
RacerX Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 Chris,If things don't work with Mr Happy,Email me.I'm local, no shipping, can pick up or meet ya someplaceThanks, Mark.
Jack C Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 Remember Lou - he said big neck. This guitar might give you cramps. (friggin thin-neck loving weenie )
BCR Greg Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 I refretted that guitar. It KILLS. Period.MC, you are an idiot for selling it.

mrhappy Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 I've never tried Rios but I'm sure lookin' forward to checkin' em out!Hey Uncle Greg... Do you remember if you used "official" Hamer size fretwire or something different... just curious.
BCR Greg Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 Can't remember, I think it has flattened Jumbo wire.
mrhappy Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 Flattened jumbo on a big fat neck sounds like LOTS of fun!!
