Working on dates, etc. We'll get that out here first as soon as it gets nailed down.

Family commitments will keep me from taking any non-medical days off for at least the next year or so, but this sounds like it's going to be a great time! The more pics (and video) the better!

do I bring a period correct Hamer?

When in doubt, bring 'em all!

What do you mean you can't make it!!! Grab the Purple Throbber and hit the road... :D

True, it is still a ways off, and anything can happen, right? ;)

Meester K, we will be expecting you....with lots & lots of chocolate layer cake!

So then I guess i have to bring both (something old & something new).

1) Pick a date ASAP so we can either block out the date or move gigs.

2) Hold the event in a suburb to make it auto friendly and lower cost for hotels.

+1 on picking the date ASAP

-1 on the suburbs - thats just lame. If anyone needs help with hotels, I can offer suggestions that might be cheaper.

Though a city event would be just fine, the 'burbs suggestion is not "lame". Especially, as David pointed out, the lower cost for travelers (do it in Rosemont and you're a max $10 cab ride from O'Hare), easier and cheaper parking (and access for driving in most cases) and decent hotel rates for hotels that are a step or two above the "cheaper" places in the city.

Like the city idea, just don't want to limit any options by being snobbish against the suburbs.

Rosemont is a smart suggestion. And if you do have any wanderlust, you can hop on the "L" at the River Rd. station and head into town. No problems. The "L" in Chicago will take you pretty much anywhere you want to go. And it has taken me places, I will never want to return to again. :D

Is this event open to non HFC or former HFC members?

Not sure why this is being asked, but this event would not be open to the general public, no.

I was also thinking about those who are bringing gear. For those of us driving, I would rather stay at a suburban hotel and take in my gear than to pay $30 to park overnight at a downtown hotel and not be able to easily take gear to a room.

Allow me to suggest that the jam take place in the showcase room of Superior Street studios in the city. Soundman and backline w/drums provided (which should cut down on the amount of gear people feel the need to bring) and it's not open to the public.

http://www.superiorst.com/showcase.php

The venue is on the west side of the city, so don't rule out flying into Midway airport and getting a hotel room near there (even if the jam is held elsewhere this is an alternative worthy of consideration).

It just seems a waste to completely avoid all that the city of Chicago has to offer, especially since the plan is to have the reception with Paul downtown. I could see keeping everything in the 'burbs if this were happening in Detroit, because Detroit is a bombed-out wasteland. But Chicago? Sometimes you gotta live a little.

And while it would be convenient for Bubba, I strongly encourage that this event not be staged the same weekend as the marathon, unless people want a logistical nightmare.

I sometimes travel with my nephew or wife who are not members here and I also know others who are hamer users and supports who are not board members but may like the opportunity to see a presentation by Paul Hamer on the early days of the company.

so that is why I asked the question.

example I ran a matt smith clinic for the Ovation fan club a year or so ago and invited HFC members and local musicians from the area. It was not real important to me if people were members of the Ovation fan club or not if they were interested in attending the event.

chris it was a legitimate question.

Thanks for the reply - no problems with that at all, Al. Invited guests, spouses, etc. would not be a problem, but we would prefer registered members over unregistered people, given potential logistical issues. There are a number of guests who will be invited who may or may not be HFC members at this point, however.

People who are not welcome here as members (for causing problems, etc.) would also not be welcome at that event, that's all. It is planned as a positive, fun experience, and there is no reason to potentially ruin that.

Not to mention I don't wanna have to take a cab too far to get to that cougars and chocolate martinis bar north of downtown in the Gold Coast. Keep it in the city.

AKA I'm making the trip.

I'm sure I have no idea what you're talking about:
