Jeff R
My honeyburst EBMM Axis. Not the most exciting flame/quilt top, but it has the most gorgeous 'burst I've ever seen. The color choice, the color bleed and the spray pattern are just perfect to my eye.
Caddie
Tough call so I'll cheat and put in 2, a Hamer n a non-Hamer. Gibson Nighthawk Hamer Vintage S Honorable mention - all of 'em. Not a dog in the house. Including the elduave/stike checkerboard phantom ;-)) caddie
zenmindbeginner
I'll have to agree on the burst, the gradients are as smooth as silk. The maple fretboard is always a welcome sight. The binding is super sweet and that Floyd looks nice and shiny. Does it have the Dimarzio Axis pickups in it? I'm pretty much a loyal Hamer man, but always had a bunch of respect for a string company that made such fine guitars. The finish looks like a cross between a 59' and a tobacco burst... I'd just call it perfect.

gorch
There are only a few Standards on the list. Once, I had a Hoyer Bo Diddley prototype that I really miss from a design point of view.
mfreyer
IMO YMMV nothing is more beautiful than the perfect Les Paul. Agreed, but flame maple has never really blown my skirt up.
burningyen
IMO YMMV nothing is more beautiful than the perfect Les Paul. Agreed, but flame maple has never really blown my skirt up. That is pretty, I love that it doesn't have gold hardware.

I'd just call it perfect. Yep, they're the custom winds from Dimarzio just for Axis guitars. They are perfect for this guitar. Very versatile, especially the neck pickup and the neck/middle combination. The bridge pickup alone just flat out punishes. They are direct mounted and the pickup routes are cut to the exact depth to get them flushed against the wood and at what either EVH or EBMM deemed to be the ideal height in relation to the strings. There's very little that is adjustable/tweakable on the Axis, and the few things you can tailor to your tastes are minute. But it's one of the few guitars I'd say is pretty much perfect stock and right out of the box, so go figure.
Armitage
DiMarzio claims the Axis pickups are very close to the Tone Zone and Air Norton (neck) pickups.
Jeff R
Key words being "very close" from what I've read on the forums. I haven't had a chance to do any A/Bing (I have no use to) but some of the junkies at the EBMM forum said there's a subtle difference. Not a rub on the TZ or the AN by any stretch -- I love the way the Air Norton sounds in the neck of those old Ibanez Petrucci sig models.I do know Dimarzio will not sell Axis pickups, not even as a custom-order or with a willingness to pay a stupid expensive price or anything, and they tend to fetch pretty killer money the rare times they show up on eBay.
