Recommend wireless outdoor speakers?

Before we remodeled our home, I had two pairs of Bose outdoor speakers connected to one old Technics receiver. The receiver sat inside the house and the speaker wires ran out through a hole in the wall. We would plug our laptop into a hard wire that was plugged in to one of the inputs on the back of the receiver.

We have been remodeling our home for the last year. We are almost finished and I want to put two pairs of speakers out in our back yard underneath our two covered patios. My original idea was to use two pairs of powered speakers connected to two Apple Airport Express units, but I am concerned I won't be able to adjust the volume of the speakers without climbing on a ladder. Don't they make some speakers that have an IR or RF remote control? I know JBL made some wireless speakers at one point. Does anyone have any experience with this stuff?

Thanks.

If you're all Appled up and have an iPod Touch... the 'Remote' app will control iTunes over Wi-Fi...

Song choices, playlists etc. and volume. So the speaker volume could be 'set' and forgotten...

That's our plan for the patio anyways, so I haven't really sourced any other options.

At least this works in my world...

That's what I did. speakers wired through the wall connected to a receiver connected to my iMac. I send the sound out of the imac into the aux in and send the tape monitor to my speakers inside and the main outs power the outside speakers.

That way the reciever can be off and the inside speakers work fine and I turn it on to hear the songs on the outside speakers.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I was originally intrigued by the recently updated Apple website that talks about "Airplay equipped speakers". I am learning that theses speakers do not actually exist yet. There are other, older technologies out there, but I wanted to keep it simple without getting into a bunch of disparate equipment.

I am probably going to set up a system that is similar to what I was utilizing before we remodeled (which is almost exactly what blackfbiv recommends). I have an old Technics receiver out in our garage. I drill a hole in the wall and run the speaker wire (actually it is lamp cord = redneck speaker wire  ) out to the two sets of outdoor passive speakers I already own. I feed audio to an input of the receiver from an Apple Airport Express.

Does the touch allow volume to be changed? I've tried the remote app on my iphone and ipad and neither of them will control volume.
