burningyen
Wow, awesome find! I agree with the idea that this is a perfect opportunity to go with a finish that you can't normally get on this model.

SteveB
I'd leave the top the way it is and put a floating HB at the neck. Schweet!
HamerHokie
Only question that comes to mind: why natural? You can have it be ANY color you want, including many that most Gibson fans can only dream of getting. Why not a nice blueburst or maybe even yellow fading to green? Purple fading to gray?Holoskull! moozak
man!... great score! and i think it's gonna look just killer in natural! a single neck PAF would be since too! i'll be anxious to see what it looks like when it's all done and comes to life! congrats! JohnnyB
I'd leave the top the way it is and put a floating HB at the neck. Schweet!I also love jazz boxes with single floating PU, but the top's already drilled for vol-vol-tone-tone. And anyway, dual HBs are a good match for bent laminated maple tops. Natural and creme pickup covers... Yupssss Check my "175" not a custom thing but unique anyway. Jimbilly
Mine had '64 Patent-Numbers, those were sweeeet pickups in that guitar. I'll vote for those.

It's gold all over the guitar. I guess it is not very tone wise. But a couple of true p90 and a natural finish is a winner combination. I love natural finish. Cheers
JohnnyB
Pickup selection depends on tonal balance you're looking for. Maple has a prominent midrange. So do P-90s, so it magnifies the midrange. Patent humbuckers have frequency extension and a slightly recessed midrange, which offsets the maple body's midrange bump. I think that's why ES-295s were popular for rockabillty and HB-equipped ES-175s are used in a variety of situations, including jazz and roots rock, but they also overdrive and distort well.
