Krank Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Trying a new approach to mixing in the hard rock/metal vein. Still just bedroom stuff though. Appreciate any advice irt. the mix.(edit - please see last post)
veatch Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 It has a really good feel. The first half of the guitar solo is killer. Hate to ask (i can't tell because i don't have access to my monitors and am listening on a $25 pair of PC speakers ) is there bass in the mix? What i hear is 2 guitars and drums. Of what i can hear, the guitar sound is fairly good, but you may need to thin it out a bit when the vocals / bass jump in as it's taking up a lot of real estate, frequency wise. It's great for the intro and the solo, but i think your mix will get muddy pretty quick when you start adding more things. I would bring the drum overheads down and give them a little more highs (by pulling down the mids a bit). Definitely bring the kick up. The snare could use some more snap. It sounds like it's a good sounding snare, it just needs to be EQ'd a bit. Overall, good work, and keep it up! Obviously, these are only the opinions of someone who's ears have been shot by too many years of abuse. If you like it, then it's good.
jettster Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Playing and all sounds pretty damn tight. Mix wise I think veatch pretty much covered my thoughts. I'm not listening on the monitors that I usually mix with but, they are decent and it seemed really bass (low frequency not the instrument) heavy. Almost to the point where it seems distorted. Good work so far.
Krank Posted February 8, 2011 Author Posted February 8, 2011 Thank you both for the input. There is bass guitar, in fact pretty high in the mix. Based on what you say I'll look into EQing the drums for more snap, maybe also highpassing the guitars.

jettster Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 Sounds really good, wish I had the patience to tweak mixes towards perfection but I have too many ideas flowing through my head and have to move on to the next project. lol All of the instruments seem to sit pretty well in the mix, bass guitar is a little hard to hear in spots but, that doesn't seem all that uncommon in most pro mixes these days for this type of music. What are you using for drums? Nice work!!
