Newport for trade/sale

Just picked this up and decided that it's not for me. Willing to trade for a newer than Y2K Hamer solid body with humbuckers (no thin necks), or a PRS McCarty. Cash can flow either way.

2000 Hamer Newport Pro goldtop in excellent condition. The goldtop has a beautiful slightly greenish aged hue to it. There is a slight bit of hameritis at the neck joint. Some fretwear on the lower frets. The neck is perfect and the intonation is spot on. These Phat Cat pickups sound great in this guitar which was quite a surprise for me. The added bonus of these pickups is that they are quieter than the P90s in my Collings 290.

Case shows wear, latches are functional.

Cash sale price is $1125 shipped/paypal'd CONUS (or make me an offer).

Looks like a real beauty. Love "gold tops" and would love to have one again. I am overloaded already with too many other things.

I would also like to know if it is Spruce or maple.
How can I tell if the top is spruce or maple? I don't see any grain through the gold finish. I think that it is spruce but now that the question has been asked (several time) I'm just not sure. I would be glad to check if somebody can tell me what to look for.

Probably the only way would be to use a dental or inspection mirror (little mirror at a 90 degree angle on a stick) stick it in the f-hole with a small flashlight and check the unfinished bottom of the top.

Hamer was still doing solid tops on spruce then, but quickly outlawed it.

I'm guessing, spruce.

To me, the Newport is one Hamers best designs

Why was that? By solid top you mean a solid color? Putting a smooth glossy finish over the pronounced grain texture of spruce would have been a challenge.

I agree. I bought an early one, auditioned side-by-side against a since-discontinued Gibson hollowed-mahogany plank archtop reviewed in the same issue of GP as the Newport. The Newport made a cruel joke of the Gibson, which cost more besides. When I got the Newport home, it devastated an Epiphone Artists' Stock Casino with Lindy Fralin dogear P90s (previously owned/played by Chris Bellew of POTUSA), which I sold in a couple of weeks. I don't play guitar much anymore, but I keep the Newport "just in case."

I'd been looking for a Newport Pro, but then the Jimmie Vaughan TLE just got me into trouble.../emoticons/default_laugh.png

Havent got a newport, and now cash is just scarce with the shopping spree looming... argh!

Whats the neck on that one, btw?
