Thanks guys!!! Are those 2004s?

So what amps are people playing them thru. My main amp is a bogner shiva head -> bogner 4X12 w/ V30s. I think with the vector I'd possibly have the middiest mid tone around.

Thomas

I play mine through Budda SuperDrive amps, a DSL 100, an old '79 JMP 2203 and JCM800 2204.

That Shiva should make is sound like a giant!.

Hi there I'm new here, having just received my Korina vector a few weeks back. All I can say it is an unbelievable guitar! Mine has Voodoo pikups in it, and I play it through 1973, 4 inputter 50W Marshall head. It's very resonant, light and suited to many styles. I got it in a trade (thanks Paul) and thought it would be kind of a "show" guitar, but right now I'm playing it exclusively, even having some other fine guitars hanging on the wall. Definitely a keeper.

Very cool Paul> how would you describe the tone unplugged and plugged into the marshall?

Thanks

~t

Unplugged its pretty loud, very resonant, almost sounds like my 61 RI SG unplugged.

Through the Marshalls the mids are smooth with lots of harmonic overtones. Big fat but not muddy. The bottom end is surprising, I thought at first that it lacked some bottom but the mids are so full they blend in with the bottom and the bottom is definitely there.

Welcome to this Place of Madness Thomas.

Ahh where to begin? 3 of my favorite subjects, Hamer, Korina, and Vectors. Wish I had one but been lucky enough to play a few. Great stuff. OMHO, but Korina and Vectors are such a great combo. I am lucky enough to own the 2 Korina Flying Vs at the bottom of this post. Korina/Limba/ African Mahogany is a wonder guitar wood but until you play and hear and feel it we could babble on forever. If you got the bucks buy one. Someday I will too.

BTW, anyone own #28 of the Standard and/or Vector run from '97?

I would drop over if I ever ran across those. :P:D

The one Flying V is the Prototype of a run of 10 total from a Pennsylvania guitar maker named Ron Kayfield. The brand is Arpeggio. Interesting(unproven) story behind the wood. Said to be from the late '40's - early '50s and was a Softball bleecher seat when first used. :P:P :P :P

I rewired the Seymour Duncan 59's up using a Hamer Sunburst Archtop schematic found elsewhere on this site. :)

The other is a late '90's Czech made Dean. A feather of a guitar with great LP tones and yet it's own even with Euro pickups. Schaller hardware too.

Hamer Vectors are wonderfully balanced and "sustain for days". :)

It has a very big and resonant tone unplugged, and into an old Marshall you are in classic rock territory, but not so compressed as a Les Paul. It has a bit more sparkle. Keep in mind I have Voodoo pups in it and run my Marshall on about 7/8 on the volume (like it should be... :) )

Well fellas. I just bought #23 of the 1997 run. It ships monday. I can't even begin to tell you how badly I'll be pacing the floors in my house til she arrives.

Thanks to everyone for the input. I was tossing and turning every night on this one. It's always hard to pull the trigger on a guitar you've never laid hands on. Your comments were my guide!

Big Country,

Congrats and a tone report is in order. As a follow-up post, there are some things that I just won't part with and the Korina Vectors are definetely on that list.

Hope you enjoy #23. I am sure she will turn out to be everything you have dreamed of.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, I got the Vector today.....in a word...awesome. Much more toneful than I had ever imagined. Problem is when I kick on the OD it squeels a high pitched squeel. And I'm not talking good feedback. Im talking bad high pitch squeel. My other guitar, a Les Paul with pretty hot Bill Lawrence L500 pickups, makes no noise. I've played cobras, other LPs, non of which caused the sqeel. My amp is a bogner shiva so it's not like it's a super high gain amp.

Anyone know what the stock pickups are in these 97 runs?

any suggestions? my cables are good. Would rather not swap pickups unless I absolutley have to.

Thanks.

Thomas

Sounds like you have a microphonic pickup.

The cover may be loose. (if it is covered)

The cover may have been removed and replaced loosly. Check it out.

You can also get it wax potted if it is the coils and not the cover.

The pickups should be Duncans of some sort. 59 neck JB bridge as a guess.

Along with the things mentioned may I input some too? I've been known to back the treble down a hair when I play/hack on Korina guitars due to the brightness of the wood of the guitar. Couple that with a more treble toned JB pickup and that might be some of it. My Dean Korina Z has a JB in the neck ;) and a JB in the bridge. Stock. Talk about a bright but great sounding guitar. Check the pickup hiegth too. I like Bill Lawrence's advice on pickup hiegth adjustment on the pickupology page at his site.

There is a discussion over at LesPaulforum about the Gibson Historic Korina V and how it compares to others. I suggested a Hamer Korina Vector and some are saying that its so out of spec from a Gibson V that it doesnt compare.

That pretty much sums it up.

They're not the same spec and they don't compare. In fact I have yet to play a Gibson V that compares to any of the Hamer Korina Vectors that I have owned or played.

Yeah, that thread's turned into quite the pissin match. There are what, 100 '58 Vs & Exploders out there, and somehow everyone should turn their noses up at Hamers in favor of the Real McCoys just cuz the Anal Vintage Homos say so.

I've played two or three real '58 Vs at vintage shows over the years and the best "'58 V" from a tonal and playability standpoint I've ever played is the Korina Vector that resides with Serial Steve now. And we won't even go into the affordability factor compared to the real thing.

I'm all for a little corksniffing, but you can't go around with the cork stuffed up one's nostril all day.
