Bonnaroo Music Festival on YouTube this weekend

He keeps that fresh by mixing in parts of Pink Floyd's Another Brick in the Wall.

Keeping things fresh by mixing in parts of a 30+-year-old song? Can't say I agree with that take, but Alice is indeed still bringing it.

The hippies are cheesed that bands like Alice Cooper are playing at Bonnaroo because it represents how the fest has become bloated, corporate and a far, far cry from what it was originally. Not unlike how the Sunset Strip rockers are still bitter toward the grunge nerds for kicking their asses to the curb. Or how you like a band when they're obscure, but when they become mainstream, you like them less.

It's also the plain and simple fact that Alice Cooper does not hold the same ideals as most of the Bonnaroo crowd.

Most of the Bonnaroo attendees identify with the 99% and Alice is a 1% devotee. There is a HUUUUUGE political chasm between Alice Cooper and the Bonnaroo audience. That is the biggest reason for the backlash.

Well, since you used the "P" word, Alice explains his politics at 2:50 :D

Funny, I thought people went to a concert for a good time. Maybe the last time I saw a political type concert was during the days of the Vietnam war. I have been going to concerts for 40 years. Nobody has ever asked my political affilliation or view on current affairs while attending a concert. I hate Ted Nugents politics but would go to see him in a heartbeat because he rocks. As for Alice Cooper and a chasm with the Bonnaroo crowd, it was certainly not evident from the youtube broadcast because those people were a rocking. Maybe some sour grapes from the "hip" bands because somebody stole some of their thunder and got schooled on what a rock concert is suppose to be ?? Without a doubt AC is a member of the 1% if you go by his income but he is about nonpolitical as they come. "Elected" is stricly tongue in cheek and about being fed up with politics. Alice has gone on record saying "Rock should never be in bed with politics. If you are listening to a rock star in order to get your information on who to vote for, you are a bigger moron than they are". I'm thinking this backlash is made up by some disgruntled bloogers. Who btw, are not in any way shape or form a professional source of news.

You beat me to the punch Thorn by less than 10 minutes.

I didn't have to type as many words, :P But yours are very articulate and say it best, next to AC @ 2:50 anyway :) .

He also sums up politics pretty good in Elected too. Especially the last verse.

I know we have problems.

We got problems right here in Central City.

We have problems on the northside, southside, eastside and westside.

We have problems in NYC, St. Louis, Philly, LA, Detroit, Chicago.

Everybody has problems.

And personally, I DON'T CARE.

The Alice Cooper persona and concert is the antithesis of all politics.

Are you saying that Alice is a Republican? I have no idea. But your mention of 1% implies that the backlash is because he's rich. Well, the Phish guys and Dave Matthews are just as rich if not richer, so that's not it.

It's left versus right when it comes down to the 99% versus the 1%... there are a lot of fairly wealthy people that support the 99% movement.

And on the other hand there are many poor folks who support the 1%. It's just politics I guess... not that we are discussing it. lolz.

Looks like a discussion of politics as usual to me when what we should be talking about is a wonderful social and musical event that had something for everyone to come away with and reflect on. Alice is still my hero (YMMV and you may think The Civil Wars was the best thing there, bless you for coming away with a positive note) because while everyone else in my class and my town was listening to the Jackson 5 and The Carpenters when I was in the fifth grade, I was listening to Alice. Halo Of Flies, Zen. If you haven't heard it, other than kind of dumb lyrics, it is a musical masterpiece. Especially for 1971. I don't believe in the 99x1 or 1x99. Everyone wants the same thing, family, love, and the end of wars. Unfortunately, that's in a perfect world which is why we have musical festivals and art. So we can be united and enjoy the one thing we all have in common.

I can think of at least 20 acts that I'd rather see than Alice Cooper on the Bonnaroo stage.

Alice Cooper was (as is many things in life), a person in a place and time... his music had no real message and he was just concerned with putting on the best show possible (making as much money as possible). Irrelevant is one of those funny words that means very little because everyone's relevance is relative. lolz.

Alice's big hits however, will always be around, he's a mega star... there's absolutely no denying that.

I like music that is challenging and or deep, physically satisfying (makes you move yer body), colorful, witty, adventurous etc. I like that Alice Cooper song that sounds like the raspberries though. And I don't have anything against folks like Alice Cooper who worked really hard and smart to make a great big ol' success and be financially secure... having pride in your work and getting rewarded for it is fantastic, I mean, I like money as much as the next guy. lolz!

You don't know with whom/what "most" of the attendees identify and you have no idea about Coop's devotions. It is a supposition on your part.

My job has me working for the "1%" more often than not. Apple, JPMorgan/Chase, Google, Pfizer, eBay, Paypal, YouTube, Genentech, Merck, Swinerton Construction, Intel, Microsoft, Oracle, Live Nation, Another Planet, etc.

I *LOVE* the "1%." They put thousands of my union brothers/sisters to work yearly and their checks don't bounce. :)

That is way, way off. It's fine if you don't care all that much for someones music for any number of reasons, but to say Alice Cooper's music had no real message is just not true. He has commented on some of our social issues in his own unique way in his music. He has put a spotlight on many things that the rest of us would rather just sweep under the rug. It does not always show up in the singles but it is explored on the deep cuts on many of the albums. If you are looking for a message try these on for size.

Refrigererator Heaven, Second Coming, Hallowed Be my Name, Dead Babies, My Stars, Generation Landside, Hey Stoopid, Brutal Planet, Wicked Young Man, Pick up the Bones, When Hell Comes Home. A whole lot of messages right there and that's just off the top of my head.

And I watched a lot of Bonnaroo on youtube. Some of those "hip" bands were painful to watch. I actually felt sorry for the kids today if this is what passes for rock with some of those acts. I also use to work security for concerts and have seen a ton of bands, including Phis. Christ almighty I had to go on suicide watch after about an hour. I wanted to take a swany off the upper deck into the parking lot. Bored out of my mind. But that is just my opinion.

Some of those old J5 songs kick ass.

Rob, I live in NC. Bonnaroo is within driving distance and I know plenty of people that go to Bonnaroo and that have been going for years. They are all hippies of some sort.

Alice Cooper has let it slip that he is a Republican numerous times throughout the years. None of this is supposition thank you.

Good for you about your love for the 1%... I just mentioned the 99% and 1% to shorten a long statement into fewer words.

To say that there are political differences between Alice Cooper fans and Phish fans is almost an understatement. I'm actually surprised that you didn't know that.

Don't be suprised. I'm not up on all that stuff. Like Alice, I DON'T CARE.

I'm outta this discussion. Peace!
