2013 "Buy No Guitars" Challenge - **WINNERS ANNOUNCED**

Recommended Posts

I wonder what's happening in January 2014? B)

I'm thinking we kick-start the economy with a 2014 "Buy Guitars" Challenge - see who buys and sells the most guitars for the year. (the buy/sell allows those with the "one in, one out" spousal mandate in place to still be competitive...)

That's a good idea for next year's challenge. I won't/can't participate, but I think it's a great idea, nonetheless!

I don't mean to be defeatist, but who on earth could keep up with Bubs and Feynman? :o

Maybe that's the Challenge for 2014:

Bubs vs. Feynman

Mano-a-Mano

The Buy All Guitars Challenge

I for one would certainly pop some popcorn...

Easy! We don't let them play.

Dont think I can join all you strong souls at resisting the inevitable. ^_^

Six days in on the new year and NGD will be here on Tuesday for a guitar paid in full 2 days before the new year began. I have only looked three times at used guitars no counting the F/S section. <_<

So I bought my last guitar, a 1993 Hamer Special FM in March, traded an SSI for an '81 Special in February, and received the Studio Custom I mention in the above quote.

Been able to resist the G.A.S. real easy since. Sign me up! ^_^:huh:B)

Wow - the official filler has fallen...

Wad'ya get, Jeff?

There are threads here and there since right after I joined about first gen Cruisebasses, always in rough or semi-rough condition and typically for not too many dollars. One popped up on the radar yesterday, just happened to be the right color, right condition, the right deal....

I called about it and was assured it played and sounded fine and didn't smell of cat pee or cigarettes, so I had at it. Scheduled to be here (at work) on Tuesday - excited!

Until then (seller's photo):

Chewed up headstock is also new avatar.

It would be cool to come up with some original DiMarzios (no idea what those are in there now), knobs and especially a truss rod cover.

ETA: I really haven't had any problems holding off buying guitars (six string variety); I am really quite satisfied with the three or four I'm playing right now, but bass is still new to me and I've been wanting a first gen Cruise for a really long time.

Those pickups could be stock.......I see adjustable poles.

I'm really ignorant (and demonstrating that plainly for all). I thought the DiMarzios had fixed poles, that was the whole reason I assumed they weren't stock.... (couple that with the knob discussion in the WTB thread). I think I'm just going to shut up until it comes in on Tuesday. :)

Just occurred to me that 2013 is coming to a close and I've only added an impulse Epi LP to the stable for the year.

Should there be a repeat challenge for 2014, I'd best set some plans for doing the Feynman-shuffle before the year's out.

Hmm... Newport?

I am impressed. Good job everyone - it's the home stretch now.

True to my character, it's in the home stretch where I usually crash and burn. And this might be the case for The Challenge.

I'm keeping my trap shut for now, but I'm working on a cool score. If it pans out (which I'm pretty sure it'll happen), of course I'll post about it....

...but for now I'm invoking the Go-Go's paradigm:

:P
