HSB0531
Wow, the comment in the blog is hilarious...lolYes it is, and probably surgically accurate.
coolfeel
Jol sent me a pic of the top this morning - looks pretty farging cool - here it is, dry and WITHOUT any enhancement or solvent. He seems extra stoked about it when he emailed me - saying "...this tiger will really jump out when it has been finished..."
django49
The depth of that figure should be incredible when finished!
veatch
Looks to be a lovely chumk of wood. This is going to be fun to watch...

HSB0531
That is a killa top! Yeah. The flame on that looks 3D and it's a bare chunk of wood. Imagine when it's finished!
veatch
Um, i believe we have established that is a *chumk* of wood, thank you... BTW - that's very nearly my favorite "type" of flame: Wide tiger stripes. Much better than the chordoroy stuff that seems to be more common. Call me silly. At any rate, if i'd pick a top, that would be in the list.
Jack C
Love those big wide flames. I always got the sense that Jol preferred the thin, pinstripe stuff, so this is really cool to see.
Bobby Marshall
Love those big wide flames. I always got the sense that Jol preferred the thin, pinstripe stuff, so this is really cool to see. He shuns the past so it makes sense that he wouldn't use something reminiscent of his best known past work. Best chumk of wood I have seen for this application. Did he agree to do a 3x3 Sunburst style headstock?!
coolfeel
Got an update from Jol on the CO and a nice teaser pic of the headstock: The fingerboard has been slotted and bonded to the neck. The truss rod is in, and the shaft of the neck is rough carved to within .100" of final thickness. A pearl monogram and nickel inlet have been set into the ebony faceplate. Side dot holes have been drilled. Final taper of the neck is complete as is the rough pitch of the heel. He is having a "special guest" builder coming to help out sometime soon. Wonder that special someone is one of our beloved luthiers here on the board?
