wyldbil Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Sorry- I moved this to "Outer Circle" where it belongs...
wyldbil Posted October 31, 2005 Author Posted October 31, 2005 Hey Scott- Thanks for steppin' in. All my Qs about the 5150 are over in the "Outer Circle". No point repoating them here.
Scottcrud Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 I'm not a member of the "outer circle" club. If you really need help with a 5150 you should contact this guy: http://www.fjamods.com/He makes them purrr.
wyldbil Posted October 31, 2005 Author Posted October 31, 2005 WHOA! I added that site to my "favorites" list. Awesome stuff. Thanks bro. I already made up my mind- I am gonna trade for the head. Here's the original post:Having had lots of amp troubles recently, the other DTK guitarist loaned me his backup head to gig last night. Yup- a Peavey 5150. Save for some nagging feedback troubles (even with the Rocktron Hush in place) this thing absloutely KILLED. It makes the wyldbil tone to a tee, and is also great for my Paul-Stanley-on-steroids DTK persona. Between both bands, I play about one one minute clean tone passage and the volume knob rolled back makes a passable sound for that- the rest of the time in both bands, it's BALLS OUT.ANYway, I have the opportunity (thanks to my wonderful friend) to make a sweet trade deal to make that head MINE. (This is a big deal for me since as usual, I have no $$$)Already I way prefer the 5150 to my dual head solid-state setup. No ss "hiss", better tone (yes I admit it) and a more usable loud sound.Any wise words before I make the trade official? Any advice from current and former 5150 owners to maybe rein the thing in (feedback) and make it work for my purposes?Any and all advice is VERY welcome.
Scottcrud Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 if you don't get it modded, the one piece of advise I can give you is don't run the Gain at 10, start at around 5 and work from there. if you run the gain too high the 5150 will turn into a chainsaw...buzzzzzz
