Bluesking Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 Anyone got any input on replacing the bridge pickup on my USA Studio Archtop? It currently has the stock JB in it, but I'm looking for something a little less midrange-heavy. I've looked at simply installing another Duncan '59 to match the neck. Also considered a Rio Grande BBQ or Genuine Texas and some Duncan Seth Lovers.Reference tone for me is early Billy Gibbons (Fandango!), live Cream, and Humble Pie. Your recommendations are appreciated.Bluesking

tomteriffic Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 A BCR Wind is a Voodo pickup designed by BCR Greg and wound to his specs. Never heard one, so I can't speak to the sound.A great replacement choice would be, from what you say you're after, either a '59, or, better yet, a Pearly Gates. A BBQ Bucker or Custom 5 will move the midrange prominence down the frequency spectrum from where a JB sits.
serial Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 It's a hotter Voodoo PAF. Mighty nice.The BBQ/TX is a great combo too.
MCChris Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 OK, I'll bite. What's a BCR Wind? What happens about 30 minutes after Greg eats a Mexican meal.
Jack C Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 I've got Duncan/Hamer SLU pickups in mine. These are basically the pickups from the Artist Ultimate, but without the special serial numbering (hence, the “slightly less ultimate” name). Great sounding PAF type pups that work really well with the Studio.
Travis Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 I've got a pair of Pearly Gates in my Special FM. It has pantloads of tone. They are like 59s but with a little more sizzle to them. The 59s can be a bit boomy sometimes, not so with the PGs. They are amazing PAF type pickups.
