MCChris Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Gene Baker will be there.Honking up power snakes off a They Only Come Out at Night gatefold?
HamStd Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 I was at the show out here in SF. Sammy gets up with Bill Church, Denny Caramassi and Joe Santrini and just killed it. Neal Schon and Jeff Watson were there and did some major shredding too.Not the same energy as seeing Ronnie live, but definitely a good show not to be missed!!!Peter
atquinn Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 I noticed it when it had been on for about 1/2 hour. I'm going to record the 1:30 re-airing and check it out later. Especially looking forward to seeing Joe "Santriani" (as he's listed in the FIOS description ) - Austin
hamerhead Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Santch?!?I missed the first part, but saw about 30 seconds before hunting down a later showing to record. Looks pretty cool.
MCChris Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 I saw most of the Montrose set with Sammy, Satch, Church and Carmassi. Pretty damn good, I must say.
bubs_42 Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Just caught Sammy Show in St. Louis a few weeks back. Sammy, Church, Carmassi and Victor Johnson the set was killer. Back in the early 2000's Sammy Toured with Montrose in tow and it was one of the biggested highlights of any live show to date. Baker Guitars and Marshall 2x12 combos.
elduave Posted September 23, 2013 Author Posted September 23, 2013 The Montrose set was stellar. I was overcome with emotion on that last song they did.
hamerhead Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Great show. Gamma's stunt double guitarist Marc Bonilla was amazing. Never heard of him before, but he's holy sh!t good.
bubs_42 Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 The Sammy Set is also on his Sammy and Friends Album, which is out today.
bubs_42 Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 The Sammy/Carmassi/Church/Satch Set. Sorry I should have been more clear.
elduave Posted September 24, 2013 Author Posted September 24, 2013 I looked, don't see the whole set available, song here, song there. Link?
bubs_42 Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 I just looked it up: Only available during the pre-order Redrocker.com. No Longer Available and was only a digital down load of added tracks NOT the whole set.I didnt' pre-order because the album just didn't pull my chain. Love Sammy but he is now on Auto Pilot. Those first 3 Post VH Albums are awsome, but after that he lost me.
elduave Posted September 24, 2013 Author Posted September 24, 2013 Gotcha. I'm still interested in seeing a full Sammy show live. He was excellent at Nats Park after the ball game and I was totally surprised when he brought Mikey out for the Van Halen stuff (didn't think he'd be there for the short set).
MCChris Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Seeing that Hagar has recorded a cover of "Margaritaville" for this album generated an angry reaction in me. Overcome with emotion in a different way, if you will.
rj2858 Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Santch?!?SNATCH!There, fixed it for ya!Yeah, childish, I know. Just couldn't stop myself.
velorush Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 AXS not available in my cowtown. Wow! We even get it in the suburbs of Skullbone! Hoping they'll air it again for DVR. Seeing that Hagar has recorded a cover of "Margaritaville" for this album generated an angry reaction in me. Overcome with emotion in a different way, if you will. I may take some heat for this, but: how some of you guys feel about Jeff Lynne? That's how I feel about Jimmy Buffett! I hope I never hear the Red Rocker doing "Margaritaville!" GREAT to see Vic Johnson mentioned! A true monster of many styles, and talk about Lesser Known Bands! I still have my vinyl copy of Minimum Wage Rock and Roll! ETA (for those of you not living with Thorn ): showing again 12:40 PM (Central) Wednesday - DVR is set!
mkadowaki Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 As a boomer I'm going to be critical. Montrose grew as he aged. The later stuff holds up better. The Gamma stuff is still urgent, at least with Bonilla playing. Schon group was good, but as much as I respect and admire Schon, he tends to "noodle" and some of his notes just fill places. But Hagar looks silly, a 60 something paunchy guy trying to jump, pose and shake like he did on songs that engender a 17 yo mentality, Satch is a great player and seems to want to stick to Chuck Berry pentatonic style but can't help himself and throws in these pinch harmonic whammy bar things that are out of character for Montrose. as someone else said, I'll get my coat and leave now...
Hamer95USA Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 I attended the Montrose Benefit show back in April. My friend had an extra ticket and invited me to go to the event. It was sort of tragic to know that he committed suicide. I really liked the Gamma set with Marc Bonilla on guitar. I thought Neal Schon's set was good. What they didn't film was Tesla's performance. I liked the original Montrose band lineup with Joe Satriani. I have to agree that Joe's guitar sound was out of character. I would have loved to see Marc Bonilla or Victor Johnson play with the original Montrose band lineup. It was good to watch this event again at home without people blocking my view by holding up their video cameras/smartphones/people bumping into me/tall people blocking my view scenario.Guitar George
Steve Haynie Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 Davey Pattison and Glenn Letsch of Gamma have been in Robin Trower's touring band for a few years. Sammy and Friends
