crunchee
I vaguely remember their first performances (in real time) on Ed Sullivan... I was just a tiny little kid, but still it had an impact on me even then: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/01/09/beatles-reunion-late-show-with-david-letterman_n_4567439.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pd-1KhZfMb4 P.S. Where'd they get the Bieber haircuts?
Montelovesco
Completely off topic: How comes you know Topo Gigio? I remember that mouse being a lead character in TV shows in Italy when I lived in Rome in the mid seventies... One of my childhood heroes even my mother loved. crunchee
I kinda threw that in as a topical (for 1964) 'in' joke...Topo Gigio was on Ed Sullivan's show even more than The Beatles were...but you have to be old like me to remember that! Montelovesco
Thanks! That was cool! And there was NO mouse EVER on TV that moved the hips the way Topo Gigio did...

BTMN
Loved the way Ed said Topo's name. Always made me smile as a kid more than the mouse did.

Steve Haynie
I had to look up how they made the puppet move and the mechanics inside. It took three puppeteers.

Willie G. Moseley
"Kees me goodnight."A simple, iconic phrase that's as memorable for Baby Boomers as "Hey kids! What time is it?" (Buffalo Bob Smith)The Sullivan show also had the earliest televised performances of Rodney Dangerfield, and I dug the way Ed said the comedian's name, as well.I was 13 when the Beatles were on. A hormonal epiphany.
dragan
Topo gigio died in a car crash around 1966 ,but it was covered up , if you play an undisclosed lp backwards all becomes clear

Montelovesco
Crunchees post sent me a long way back into time and on a sentimental journey (me and my friend V.Odka): Sitting in the old Volkswagen of ours, my mother driving from Pavesi bar to Pavesi bar on the italian "highways" in the early seventies, always looking for cookie boxes with Topo Gigios puppets in them... Those toys I used to collect as a kid sell for a lot of bucks now, of course...
