Best thing you've gotten from an HFCer

For me it has to be the Slap Ya Mama spicy seasoning I got from Cajunboy. I put that shit on EVERYTHING! It's so good I haven't even cracked into the multitude of other hot sauces he sent me in return for a bunch of nudie pics he didn't even use to wallpaper the inside of the cabinet he built for Poe.

What about you?

I've gotten more than my fair share of tasty meals from Cajunboy. I try to provide boat rides and boobies for him to look at, but I'm getting the better end of the deal. Sometimes we try to trick him into playing tiny 8 stringed guitars.

Mark is good people.

Wow- where to begin? So many cool rawkin' CD-Rs of this that and the other from HFCers, I can't begin to list them. Surf instro care package for my missus from Pam... Some really bitchen Japanese picks that are the jewels of my pick drawer from Tombo, killer hot sauce from Phoenix Steve, a super kewl Triumph tour program from ElDuave. The Mighty Fung sent me so much cool stuff to while away the hours while I was on my back for three months, it makes me all ferklempt. (SP?) The fellowship and friendship, e-mailed convos I have had with some of you are just awesome... BCR Greg went above and beyond when FedEx (GRRRRR...) broke one of my guitars. You HFCers have some seriuously good karma coming for DANG sure.

AnDy sent me a Kahler bass whammy one time! How freakin' cool is that?

Plus some Hamer swag from the Open house one year.

JeffR was johnny on the spot with a TON of travel/tourist stats from the TIA to help out the Mrs. and I in our quest for the wilderness adventure business thang...

BassGuy Dave shared a CD of some of his band's shenanigans. Great bassist and seriously talented songwriter. One of the most well developed funny-bones around.

Stevehaynie trusted me with a kepi to try out on spec.

Pam sourced out some flatwound strings one time and saved me a buncha cash.

I think there's a couple more... it's hard to think sometimes...

i know MCChris said 'the best' but it's all good...

Oh! And I got to have Pammy ride on my lap on the way back from lunch during the factory tour. Can you say long-and-winding-ro-o-o-o-o-o-ad? ;)

Well, I'll have to firmly side with the those that cited "friendship." That along with perks and material objects:

  • Poe gave me a set of Kinman Strat pickups once to thank me for selling his T-62s on ebaY.
  • MC Chris sent some smut.
  • BCR Greg has given me many t-shirts, caps, sweatshirts, pick guards, etc. Oh, and he gave me the opportunity to play in front of real live people, which I had never done before. I still don't know if they have forgiven him for that.
  • StevieC has given me great advice. Advice for which he usually charges a good deal of money.
  • thecajunboy gave me a great dinner and a place to stay when I was in Louisiana.
  • JeffR gave me the opportunity to photograph the James Burton Guitar Festival (the photgraphs can be seen in this month's Vintage Guitar Magazine), and key parts of south Louisiana. It was also at that time that I (along with JeffR, Cajun, and Poe) had lunch with Tab Benoit, hung out at his home, drank his moonshine and played his guitars.
  • Turdus (he wil always be Turdus to me) gave me a Wilkinson-trem-bridge-intonation-adjusting-tool-thingie.

"Things" are meaningless, but as I look at what I listed above, they all look like friendship to me...

Edited to fix crappy spelling and to add that I knew I'd forget something important, and I did. Phoenix sent me the Seth Lovers out of his Newport, "just because he felt like it" and a load of his homemade hot sauce to boot!

I would have to agree with other when they say "friendship". There are several people on this board that I would consider friends. Not acquaintances...friends. People who would give you the shirt of their backs if you needed it. People who give you advice on playing, and advice on life in general. Here is the short list….

Jack – A buddy that lives down the street, he has been busy and I have been busy lately so we have been out of touch for a while. But blackmagic is one of the best guys you will ever meet. Fun, LOUD, opinionated, and absolutely harmless…he cracks me up, and drives me crazy. But I love him.

Kiz – Words just don’t cut it here…I would consider Kiz one of my very best friends. Just to give you the slightest idea, this is a guy who sent me a $2500 guitar and said “We will straighten it out later”. That’s just the tip of the iceberg with Kiz. One of the most sincere and caring individuals you will meet. I could go on, but it would take multiple pages.

BCR Greg – Advice about everything musical under the sun. Great times at the shop…coffee, guitars, and more BS than any human should be allowed to listen to. LOL!! I was able to realize a couple of dreams playing with Grumpy Old Men. Stoney Kurtis will never play “Rock Steady”, “Black Water”, “Mississippi Queen”, etc…it was fun as hell to front the band on that night. I always wondered what it was like to be a front man. I have been in bands where I was the singer, but I was always playing the guitar as well. Being just a singer was like playing naked in front of people…and it was an awesome feeling. I was bummed that Kiz couldn’t make it that night, but family is always more important that playing in front of people. It will happen in the future.

Jack Butler – I only got to meet Kevin Dillard when I went to NAMM but the dude is simply a beautiful human being. One of the most down to earth, genuinely nice guys you will meet and an absolute monster player. I enjoyed every minute of hanging out with Kevin and Tonejunkee. It was awesome to just sit and listen to two pros talking about performing. I never had the talent or balls to do what these guys do and I respect the hell out of them.

Mobster – Fellow NFL and Jets fan (poor bastard), dog lover, and hopeless guitar snob. I enjoy talking to Mobbie and shooting the shit. My trip to NAMM last year was one of the highlights of my life and I have him to thank for that. He helped me get my Hubers, and is always more than willing to help me with financial advice. I will forgive the fact that he thinks that Joe Namath was overrated…we are all allowed to have idiotic thoughts now and again. LOL!!

JeffR and the Cajun boy - Good lord…where do I start with these lunatics. LOL!! These are two of the funniest guys you will ever meet. They are the Yin to each others Yang… Jeff is a whirlwind of action and non-stop verbal assaults, and then Mark finishes you off with one line. ROTFLMAO! Cajun packages show up on my doorstep unannounced and unrequested. I get to spend an entire week in NO right before Katrina and damn near everything was taken care of by these guys. One of the best weeks of my life..no doubt. Two of the very best humans on the planet…and two crazy Cajuns.

It saddens me to know that some of these guys don’t get along with each other. But the one thing that all of these guys have in common is that they respect me enough to never ask BS questions like “So what did insert name of arch enemy say about me today?” It never happens and that’s the way it should be. I have taken shit for my friendships, been called an “ass kisser” and “person with no credibility” but it is always from sycophants who have a delusional sense of righteousness and justice…as if I care about their opinions.

If I were to list the acquaintances whose company I have enjoyed…the list would be several pages long. Everyone from the Matthes brothers, to Jaye Isham, to Stonge, SteveC, Ricky, Tonejunkee, Peter Fung, Mike Lee, Mike C, Alpep, Frank(buzzy frets), DavidE, Demented, Hamerboy, Silentman, phantomgt, and on and on and on. Too many names and too many hilarious times with wonderful people to list.

I love this place…
