How do i know if its made from Korina?

Recommended Posts

There is a fella that I may be doing a trade with. He says this is a 2002 Korina Standard...but he doesn't have the certificate.

He claims it was custom built for his friend that was endorsed by HAMER....Rob Brewer from Unwritten Law

How do I verify that its korina?

Pull off the truss rod cover... should be some bare wood there but... Korina is usually hard to identify just by a small patch of bare wood.

Black or white limba but most of it is pretty yeller in appearance. It looks like mahogany but is blonde and sometimes has mineral streaks.

Thanks for all your input. I doubt that the trade will happen though. I offered up my Gary Moore Heritage in trade.

Didn't you recently say something along the lines of not doing something dumb, like trading or selling off a Gary Moore model (again)?

However, tell me how do you come to find those great guitars ever again?

Korina is lighter than mahogany. So tell us what it's worth weighting and someone can measure agains a mahogany Standard.

That's a generalization that doesn't always prove true. I've got a mahogany Standard that comes in just a hair over 8lbs, and neither of mine weigh more than 8.5lbs. I've seen some of the Korina examples top 10lbs.

Call Kim Keller and see if he's able to look it up. I'd guess they have pretty good records for 2002.

Who is Kim Keller? One of the higher ups in Hamer before fender shut them down?

My korina Vector is super lightweight. My korina Standard may be the heaviest guitar I have ever played. Granted, it is a bigger hunk of wood, but there IS a big variation from one piece to another.

BTW, another (non-Hamer) semi-hollow has a korina neck and (chambered) korina body, spruce top and ebony board. Weighs under 5 pounds. May be lighter than my Parker.

One of the heavier Hamers I've picked up was a korina Standard from the limited run.

If the guitar is korina and Hamer, it's not what some call 'black korina' (which is not a real wood-it's the crap korina). Hamer rejected anything that was garbage and even a lot of good stuff.

If I had that guitar, no way in hell I'd trade it for any Heritage ever made.

Kim Keller was a Hamer specialist whose responsibilities included customer communications. He is not a stranger to this forum and is highly regarded by many members. In the few exchanges I had with him he was always welcoming and went beyond a courteuos reply.

We've seen this guitar before - this was the Hamer Standard offered over at the "My Les Paul" forum, and I've communicated with the seller via TGP.

The real owner used the guitar briefly for an animated video shoot (???) and that's it, so I was told. The owner did manage to ding-up the back pretty good, probably on some "punk rawk" belt-buckle.

The guy is asking TOP DOLLAR for a guitar he has no paperwork on (no surprise for a punk band). When I was talking with him, he did NOT mention anything about Korina. Now the guitar is Korina, eh? <_<

What a surprise that the story changes to justify the price he is asking. I'd beware, if I were you....

What Kiz's said or just find anything that is not painted, which isn't easy.

Under the TRC is the only place you'll find unpainted on a painted Hamer.

Do they shield the output jack hole?

Probably not, but are you going to take that funky jack out to look?

Remember, this is a 2002. No Electrosocket Jack on that one.
