Best Speaker for a Blues Junior?

A friend recently put a Blues Junior in layaway for his son. The son, in the meantime, took his earnings (which were considerable, he's a certifiable prodigy) and got something else. That left my friend in a lurch. He's decided it might be a good idea to switch from predominantly acoustic to more electric. He just got what might be the coolest cigar box electric just today.

Anyway, the Blues JR is pretty common and is commonly known to have its problems, among them, being kind of "fizzy" sounding.

Seeing as how an Eminence Ragin Cajun transformed my Super Champ and a Copperhead did the same for my Pro Junior, both of which have 10" speakers, I thought there might be a recommended replacement. The stock speaker is an Eminence design, but doesn't look like it's all that to me.

Suggestions??

I guess you wouldn't be asking the question unless he can't back out of the layaway?

I owned a Blues Jr. for awhile. I think they're all right but they lay a basic sonic signature on everything, no matter the guitar or where you twist the dials.

A different speaker would probably help though. I'd look at the Eminence Tone Guide to get focus on the speaker that would give your friend the sound he's shooting for.

Also, you can change the tubes for NOS or higher quality, but there's only so much you can do with an op-amped PC board mass-produced combo amp.

Another speaker I'd give some consideration to is the Jensen Alnico P12N, or really, look into the range of 12" Jensen alnico and ceramic drivers. Any of those should offer better response than the stock speaker.

Either a TT Ceramic or an Eminence C-Rex! Fender actually has done a few models adding the C-Rex because its been such a popular upgrade. I have one if your interested, if we get together this weekend we can talk.
