Bluetooth & Rocksmith

Question

So I'm trying to find a better option to get sound out of my macbook when I"m playing Rocksmith. And I thought why not try to get sound out of my Bose Soundlink Mini.

Got the computer and the Mini talking to each other and fired up RS. And the playback of the song works fine, but the playback of the guitar part is off. Yeah, yeah, I can already see you jokers with the better practice more cracks. There was a notable lag and the signal seemed to cut in and out.

What gives? Any cures? Or should I look to an alternative output device?

Gracias!

You'll get latency with any wireless option (and most any digital one that requires processing).

It may be very subtle, but when you are playing, even a tiny difference messes with your head. My suggestion is a wired analog output, but even with that there may be some difference in the signals. It will probably do the trick though.

It looks like the Bose has a 3.5mm input - try just running a cable from the macbook's headphone jack to that.

Is Rocksmith good?

I did a pile of work on my PS3 to get the guitar sound and backing track as close as possible. The main objective was to remove anything that does any audio processing between the system output and the speakers.

Directly attacked thicko computer speakers worked so much better than my Tv surround that was obviously doing all sorts of clever shenanigans.

Bluetooth has an unavoidable lag, fine for file transfers or playing music but no good for what your trying to do.

When I was a kid I used to try to figure things out with guitar in hand, Kiss on turntable and drop needle and pick up needle and try to plunk out what I just heard...repeat....repeat...repeat ... never sounds quite right no matter what you do ....oh frack, they detune their guitars a half step...on and on and on

Well, Rocksmith tells you the key - standard, drop D, detuned a 1/2 step and it's just like guitar hero but with 6 strings. You can repeat sections and the interface is a little cumbersome. You don't have all the songs you want to learn, but there's plenty to choose from. It does all the effects for you so you don't have cables everywhere: guitar into mac. I have to admit, I enjoy it. It certainly is fine if you're looking to breathe life into your practicing by changing gears.
