Random (Music and Guitar Related) Thoughts Thread

Recommended Posts

Thought I would make one of these for when it is late and I (or anyone else who has mental diarrhea) decide to post passing thoughts that I am sure everyone is just DYING to see posted. :D

I walked in tonight after having a few drinks out on the town, looked at my hamers quietly resting in their stand, and was totally stoked that I own such instruments. I think I may play myself to sleep on the couch on one of them.

I have occasionally looked at a couple guitars on the stands and had the thought, MAN, I can't belive I own some Cool Guitars, HAMER RAWKS!! Then I remember how little I know on guitar and how MUCH can be learned. I need to get to work.

Life IS Good! B)

Having my morning cup of joe.

sitting at my work bench.

waking up to familiar past and present smells, piles of tools, sandpapers, solvents,

I gaze over towards the wall of cornucopia hanging guitars in different stages of wip.

I gaze over the drum set, set up in the middle of the area where my son was beating the skins prior

I gaze over the pedal board, amp, chords, guitars with straps on and soiled, abused strings applied.

another day begins. another day.

One day at a time.

I look at my closest full of Hamers, and I know that there are more upstairs.

Then, I think of all the people that I've met because I like these guitars and the music that is made with them.

Then, I realize that it's Monday, and a group of guys that I've met through this board will be showing up for more music tonight.

Hamers make my world go 'round, it seems.

I'll have to start opening up the Monday thing to all my local guys and gals.

Anyone else?

Been playing the Alvarez Yairi nylon-string.

It's like learning a totally different instrument. Thumb pivoting on the back of the neck. Fingers like...so. No, it rests on THAT knee. Stop making so much sound with the fingerpicking.

I love learning.

Thinking about how much I canNOT do on guitar......And now I am branching off into bass and (most likely) scaring little kids with my voice(??!!). What's up with that?

But at this age, why bother worrying about what anyone else thinks.......

I feel similar. Fortunate to have the great playing/looking guitars in my brood. Then I question myself as to why I'm so obsessed with OTHER shit. My face glued to the screen, constantly looking at Reverb or Kijiji or HERE!!! WTF is wrong with me?

I played way more when I just had the simple basics. 1 guitar, 1 amp, 1 Fulldrive 2 to drive it all home. Then again, my significant other wasn't in the picture (well she was, but away at school), nor was my 15 month old daughter.

Aside from my bands which each take a night or two per week (which can be a lot some weeks), the only time I get with my guitars is after everyone's in bed. Playing a little 1 watter at low volumes when I do plug in, or falling asleep on the couch strumming as the TV glows in the background. Yet I feel it's necessary to find more shit.

I regret taking my time for granted when I had a lot more of it (too many naps!) and I regret not utilizing what I have to play, rather than surfing for gear porn. Stupid regrets....

I think about what question Nathan is going to ask next.

Hamerhead, thanks.

With this statement of yours, this musing about what I might possibly muse about next, I have finally achieved the immortality I have sought.

Finally, at long last:

I'm so meta, even this acronym

As I stood in my closet getting dressed this morning, I noticed I have more guitars in the closet than I have pants.

I thought to myself, "I need more pants."

Definitely the wrong thought! You certainly need more guitars. B)

On a homeside pitstop between different vacation locations I had picked up the MIK Standard for the first time in a year. Strings had been rodded a bit, but connected to the VAC25 it still had the uber nice single coil sound for what I had Leosounds made the special pickup creation. Then I realized how sensitive the Schaller LP trem works. On top, it all resonated nicely on the all alder made guitar. It was one of this moments a glass of great wine joins in to share.

Well, thanks to a recent move & a surprise 20lb weight gain, I've only got three pairs of pants in the new house. So it's Guitars 6; pants 3. The upshot: I now have a sweet ass walk in closet that I can put a lot of my shit in.

  • 3 weeks later...

I've been thinking that my three Hamers are all the guitars I'll ever need. I've got all the bases covered: Solid body? My Studio Custom. Semi-hollow? My Newport BirdsEye, of course. When I can't decide between solid or semi? My Artist Custom fits like a glove.

I've been slowly downsizing, as I've sold some pedals and an amp recently on Reverb. Just need to sell a few more guitars and a couple more amps. It's nice having actual space in a closet again.
