Cord Organization Ideas

Question

Posted

Through all my successive moves, various cords have mostly wound up in a large plastic bin. It's a PITA to find anything. If you take the time to organize your various cords and chargers, what method works best for you?

After searching the Web, it's looking like stackable ornament boxes may be best suited for what I'm looking to accomplish. If anyone's tried that and had particular success or frustration, I'd like to hear about it.

That is a good idea. One other easy fix is to get a box of the resealable (Glad or similar) plastic bags. Sandwich size for small things, quart size for larger. They are easy to fit into whatever space or gig bag you use for storage, can be labelled and are see through to make the search easier and eliminate the tangled messes..

I have six boxes of various sizes under the work desk in my office, and two large flip-top boxes in the garage. Each has a different type of cable. I do video production and post-production work so my list of cables might not be the norm.

1. USB cables

2. Firewire cables

3. Ethernet cables

4. Various, small computer parts

5. Audio cables (everything but long XLR)

6. Video cables (everything but long BNC)

7. Audio cables (long XLR - on a shelf in the garage)

7. Audio cables (long BNC - on a shelf in the garage)

Attach each cable to the device it belongs to then..........................bin the devices you never use! I guarantee you'll have 90% less cables to keep tidy :P
