Toadroller Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 I'm doing an assist* for Motorpriest, who is in Croatia, but the major shippers are coming back with shocking number:USPS won't do itFedEx is $1100 USDUPS is $1200 USDGranted, I may be doing something wrong on their estimating web sites, but that wrong? What am I missing? How do you folk in Europe get things over from over here? DHL? Other?*Wait til you see it! NHC, but worth the reveal.
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 How do you folk in Europe get things over from over here? DHL? Other? We very rarely do anymore due not only to exhorbitant postal rates but also due to import duty/import tax! I recently bought an ESP Edwards Explorer (brand new from Japan) for $900 (correct price) but with shipping/tax it actually cost me $1350. I used to import most of my guitars/gear from the US up until around the mid-2000's but no longer can afford it (or make a saving) due to this...
Disturber Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Last time I used USPS, from the US to Sweden. Rebecka shipped an Artist over to me. It was reasonable priced and worked really well. Why won't they do it?
gorch Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 USPS usually is the cheapest for fair numbers.Standards may exceed USPS maximum measures. FedEx mostly is the cheapest to Germany.
RobB Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 I'm doing an assist* for Motorpriest, who is in Croatia, but the major shippers are coming back with shocking number:USPS won't do itFedEx is $1100 USDUPS is $1200 USDWhoah, WTF? That is ludicrous AND insulting. Fuel is so cheap now and it is BS that shippers keep charging more as their overhead plummets. Pricks. On a much smaller example, it cost me $97.00 (insured $1700, "direct signature", whatever...) to ship a guitar from California to Alabama. I was speechless.
belgian Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 USPS is the way - but maybe they don't serve Croatia. It might be interesting to ship it to an address in Germany and then to Croatia.
Toadroller Posted December 4, 2015 Author Posted December 4, 2015 I found my problem with USPS. Once I entered a length dimension of 46", it was happy to quote me in the $500 range. Better, but not great.Taking Cynic's advice from this thread:http://www.hamerfanc...shipping +ratesand going through Paypal's portal to USPS, I might get it down to $110 range if I can safely pack it up under 42" length and keeping total length + girth under 79. Which will be a neat trick if I can do it.
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Last guitar I had shipped from US to here was around $120 but yeah, you need to get the length of the parcel down. I'd have thought under 44 inch would bring the price down considerably. Over here in England, once you go over 110cm (44 inch) the prices go haywire...
Montelovesco Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Well, I paid something around 80 Dollars with USPS from the States to Germany, and something linke 80 Euro from here to the States. If it helps - don't know if it does - you might ship it to Germany and than I will ship it to Croatia. If this helps to save some money, let me know...
