The photo makes every one of those current finishes look nice.

The 3TSB on the Fender USA J-Bass body under Jim’s Cali is beautiful in person, but my son is going “full custom” on that one, and something as pedestrian as a Sunburst finish just won’t do.

Up next:
A new Orig. Floyd for the CS Charvel Star, a kill switch button and Gravelin Mongoose p'up for the neon chartreuse Hamer Cali, new p'ups and kill switch/pot for the Charvel DK24 Pro Mod, new strings, Lockmeister trem, Gravelin pick up and truss adjustments for the Hamer Cali double neck.
Busy busy.

You’re going to need a good day to sort all of that out!

Yup. Luckily, I'm going to have the next 2 weeks off. :D

Work to upgrade/tweak my Cali's continues! The Melon Cali got a new kill switch button last weekend, replacing the old mini toggle variety and this weekend it got a newly re-purposed/rewound Neon SD TB-11, fresh from the bench of Josh Gravelin. I had two neon SD's, neither of which were singeing my pleasure centers anymore so, rather than sell them, I opted to have them rewound into the infinitely more preferable Mongoose. I've extolled the virtues of Josh's Mongoose model plenty already but it really is the best f-ing p'up for my Cali's. Coupled with the snazzy neon colored bobbins, these will make for a one -two knock out punch on stage.

In addition to the pick up, I installed a new Schaller Lock Meister with stubby saddle bolts and a nice new FR 37mm fat brass block!  All this beast needs is it's neck. I sent it to Shane to use as reference for creating a replacement neck for another Cali project. Anxiously awaiting the return of both the MelonCali neck and the delivery of the replacement neck.

Should sound even gooder now with a Gravelin in it! 😆  You had a go on it whilst it featured a Custom Custom.

You better be passing out sunglasses before the show when you play that guitar.

Na, that's part of it's appeal.

Cool!  It already has Van Halen style cigarette burns.

That burl maple behind it? That's gonna be the veneer. ;)

Oh goody goody goody goody...

Head stock with maple burl veneer for the upcoming Cali project. Freely acknowledge that it was Shane's idea- perhaps an attempt to add a little class and refinement to an otherwise gaudy shredder. Gawd, I love 'em! :)
