bubs_42 Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I haven't played one in years, but I just bought one to try out in the Bridge of my McCarty. Managed to snag one with Standard Pole/Screw setup.
Bennyboy-UK Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 This has two in it... They are as good as anything I spose, I can't recall anything particularly amazing or not about them. Decent general humbucker... Guitar is ash and maple if that has any bearing... I had thought of getting a spare scratchplate to experiment with other options, but not got round to it.
Armitage Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Managed to snag one with Standard Pole/Screw setup.I didn't know you could get them like that.I have a pair in a JEM... can't say I'm impressed.
Bennyboy-UK Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 There was one in the bridge position of that Jap Strat I bought off Carfish as well, I decided to shove a PATB-1 in there as I know I like those generally And it looks cool.
atquinn Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I got one to try out in my Diablo II, but the Jazz JB combo I tried out first sounded awesome, so it's not going anywhere! - Austin

I have a pair in a JEM... can't say I'm impressed. Ebay, some guy out of Cali appears to have bought stock from Fender of the discontinued Sambora Strats. All white, but nothing a cover won't fix. Going to put in an Air Classic in the neck and the Pro in the bridge. IF that doesn't work i'll try the Virtual Hot that I have sitting on the shelf. It sounded pretty good in my last McCarty but not enough cut.
JES1680 Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 Yep, love them in the neck. Have one in the neck of a Dave Murray Strat with a Super Distortion in the bridge a very nice mix.
bubs_42 Posted January 19, 2016 Author Posted January 19, 2016 I would guess you guys that are using them in the neck like them because it is more open sounding? Pretty much what I'm trying to accomplish in the bridge without being too HOT.
bubs_42 Posted February 1, 2016 Author Posted February 1, 2016 I ended up buying a NOS PRO out of a Sambora Strat after some tone discussions with another guitar player. I batted around a bunch of pickups and we used the 36th and the Virtual Hot as the starting point for what I liked and didn't like. I found this pickup and bought it, it is not installed in my McCarty and it is exactly what THAT guitar needed. More Power and More CUT without being harsh, brittle or too hot. Only problem, its white! Time and I wanted to add a cover but WTH.
Jeff R Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Bobbin toppers ...http://www.universaljems.com/cart/bobbin.htm I rolled the dice on them and was quite pleased. Before ... AFTER
JGravelin Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Great pickups! Tastes are subjective, of course but...I like them. Nice G&L, Jeff! I bet that thing tears it up bigboy style.
bubs_42 Posted February 2, 2016 Author Posted February 2, 2016 Those G&L Necks feel so good. Can't wait to get an ASAT. Thanks Jeff!
anotherfreak Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 I have a covered set in my Duo-Tone and I love 'em! I don't do any high gain, but I can get a great rock/country/blues-y tones for days. great all-purpose pickup
