T51 fretboard question

Question

Hello Hamer Friends!

There seems to be a coating of sorts on the maple fretboard on my T51 that wants to come off. It is starting to peel off - almost looks like a plastic coating of sorts. Is that something put on at the factory? Some kind of after-market coating to prevent damage to the fretboard?

What do you guys think? Appreciate your thoughts!

I'm pretty sure Hamer finished all of the maple boards on their guitars. Sounds like that finish is coming off? Unless maybe someone put on something aftermarket.

A pic would help but as above, it just sounds like the clear coats lifting.

Thanks for your help. Tough to get a good pic - you can see it a bit at the edge of the fretboard here. It almost peals off like a coat of plastic

What is under it? More finish? It could be that someone refinished it? Maybe if they used something like Tru-Oil, or maybe not. That's strange.

I would hazard a guess that what you're seeing below was it's sealer / base coat. They'd shoot some clear over it, knock it back to flatten and key it, and then put the final coats over it and on the spot in your image either it's worn through it's top coats, and a bit of moisture's got in lifting it, or it never really adhered in the first place and the top coat has decided to leave the building.
