Sorry, but there is nothing quite like the excitement of a Shishkov order in progress.  I'm getting set to get in line again-it's an awesome ride.

I finally got in line. it will be worth the wait!!

I've NEVER heard anybody diss the "14 coat" process - never.

It is(was) an extremely thin finish, as Arnie said, and was likely thinner than many 50s-60s "classic" guitar finishes.

It always cracked me up when people would talk about a finish choking off the natural resonance or not allowing a guitar to "breathe".   Guitars don't breathe, and the finish isn't what kills tone - crap wood and/or lousy construction does that.  A good finish is not porous, and there's no discernible difference between the Hamer finishes, the thin poly PRS finishes or a vintage nitro finish as far as impact on tone.

I have. On the Heritage forum no less. I was lurking and a thread came up about Hamer's and the 14 coat finish and they were all saying how they hated the headstock (!) and how Hamer's were just pretty eye candy with that fancy finish, quality build, wood and fit....but that Heritage had the tone EVEN IF THEY WERENT BUILT AS WELL.

I laughed and then I laughed again when Mr. Heritage himself joined our forum.

When I bought my plain Sunburst AmSe Strat in 2005,  the dealer offered me a smoking deal on some gold top PRS that he had. It was great  but the tone was just not there for me. It didn't help that it needed a setup very badly. I walked out with a Strat that I still have and love.

All this talk of liquidating gear to fund another Shish has me thinking. I owe Mike an email on a Fender scale idea I have. I would have to let some things go that I don't think I can.

In the end, it will be worth it. Every time I play 0006 I think, this is the best guitar I have ever played. I need to get in line again.

My wife and I went to see Mike and Trish two weeks ago. I'd never been to a luthier before and with Mike's long history at Hamer and now having started his on brand I just knew I was in for a treat. I got to see what he is currently working on and I have to say I was more than excited.
Mike and Trish let me choose the top for my Shishkov, I got to play what I believe must be one if not the original DC-Custom prototype (signed by Mike on the back of the headstock as a pice of art should be ;-) and we all went for dinner afterwards. The whole experience was unforgettable. Thanks, team Shishkov! I hope he'll get to start on my order soon....no pressure of course  ;);)

The bandsaw has been working overtime this week.

If someone nearby does woodturning OR likes to build cabinets with nice hardwood trim, there is an opportunity awaiting. There is also a market for "wooden trim parts" such as pickup rings, knobs and tuner pegs. But I am guessing that would have to be farmed out lest it slow down production of guitars.

If you have 0054 cutout like that, I would consider buying it! That's sooooo COOOL!!!

I hate to say it, but "Me too!"
This is going to start a landslide of busywork which Mike doesn't need, but it's a great idea!
