Fractured Knobs on Late Model Hamers?

Michael_B

Question

I've owned about 17 late model Hamers and (almost?) all have had one or more control knobs with internal fractures.  The consistency of the "problem" has caused me to chalk this up to the composition of the knobs.  I'm curious whether other people have had similar experiences or whether I'm just a particularly "lucky" person.

Many times that comes from putting import knobs on US pots or the reverse. if the notch numbers on the knob don't match the notches on the pot shaft that can happen. Were they all original knobs?

These are knobs that came on the guitars, when I received them.  If it were just a few, I could imagine that from time to time people installed the wrong type knobs.  Since it's the case on (almost?) every one of 17 late model Hamer USA guitars, it seems improbable each one had import knobs swapped onto them.

I've had quite a few Hamers come through with fractured knobs as well.  Better the guitar than me, I say.

I had this problem with one of the top hat knobs on 0531.

Easy to replace.

Glad to read that I'm not alone.  I'm a little surprised that I seem particularly "lucky" in my consistent experiences, on these.  I never replace them, because they work fine and they're hardly noticeable.

Mine fractured to the point that it split in half.

It always had a small defect in it from the beginning, and like windshield glass, the crack slowly grew.

On any of my Hamers (and only the Hamers), the black knobs are OK but several gold ones are cracked. Interesting.....
