kizanski Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 hamer says no for a reason. it surely isn't because thay don't wan to make money. if 20 people wanted watsons with kahlers, hockey stick headstocks, triple coil pickups, in puce-burst with inlays that read "my farts cause brain damage" (thanks john e, that still makes me giggle) don't you think that would be ridiculous and in some way dimish hamer as a high end guitar maker. jol is the "designer" and i guess hamer doesn't want to turn into carvin. hamer's "no" doesn't mean they won't ever do it, we have seen otherwise. you guys get pissed off and take it personally but it is still jol's and the frank's calls to make. get over it. When a dealer offers to place an order for 20 guitars and gets turned down, only to see the guitar pop up a some time down the line, what do you figure the reason is then?...and believe me: I'm "over it." I still have many used Hamers, but I have many other brands as well in my arsenal.

Get over it? I got over it alright and stopped buying Hamers when the things I was told no on suddenly showed up on other people's guitars. Like Kiz said, "I" shouldn't have to beg for Jol or Frank to take my money to build the guitar I want. Screw that...and for the record, those guys didn't tell me "no right now but we'll let you know when it's yes." If you wanna bow down to them and defend them, go right ahead.
halide Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 sounds like you fellas are posting to the wrong board. wha, wha.

halide Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 there plenty of guitar builders for people with more money than sense. we don't need to make hamer into one of these too. how can commenting on an anti-hamer thread on a hamer board be misconstrued as flame-baiting? you fellas need a new message board AND a hobby.

kenjones Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I have asked them 3 or 4 times to make me a copy of a Korina Modern to go with my #22 Vector and #22 Standard and they said that there were copy right issues. Why is it that they can make an exact copy of a 58 flying V and yet they can't make me a Modern? A group like this, perhaps? Hmm... Robin didn't do a Moderne either. What is up with that?
BCR Greg Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 For the record, I am not anti-Hamer. I AM for getting the customer the piece that they want. When I have asked over and over for a feature and been told "No, not Hamer enough" and then it shows up elsewhere, it pisses me off. It's Hamer's deal to do what they want, so that's that.We have had some friggin' incredible guitars made, though, and that ain't gonna stop any time soon.

BruceM Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Got anything for sale? Too late, Bruce. He said mysteriously. Excellent! Bring it (them?) along on Friday!
MCChris Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Got anything for sale?  Too late, Bruce. He said mysteriously. Excellent! Bring it (them?) along on Friday! Better have your protective goggles ready if he brings a particular guitar he's getting from Kizanski. It's a pointy one.
kizanski Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Better have your protective goggles ready if he brings a particular guitar he's getting from Kizanski. It's a pointy one. Another hint: It's a "NO" guitar mentioned (not by me) above....

Give me your tired, your pointy Your unwanted guitars yearning to breathe free The wretched refuse of your jaded shore Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me! I lift my pick by the back door.... FREE ALL UNWANTED AND UNLOVED HAMERS NOW!
sirDaniel Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Got anything for sale? That depends. What are you looking for? Badger Dave and I just finalized a blockbuster deal that rivals the Hershel Walker trade. I'm indirectly in on that one, I ended up the best though....

Excellent....looks like Friday is going to be a regular guitar-o-rama. Will you guys have these fine instruments with you on Friday?
sirDaniel Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Badger and I will be doin' the deal at the 4-3-2-1, but........it's not a Hamer (it's a D.O.C. shhhhhh......)
thecajunboy Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Many good points in this thread. I can imagine the pain of the "No" answers. Good thing though, that this is the Hamer Fan Club, and not the "Custom Order Hamer Fan Club".
silentman Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I've been pretty lucky. I've ordered a few customs, but nothing outside of the normal options. I got lucky on the watson and walked away with a sustain block and a pickup move which probably wouldn't have prevented the order if it was turned down. I did have one guitar end up in the bandsaw pile though, but Hamer made good on their mistake.
HamerHokie Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 For the record, I am not anti-Hamer. I AM for getting the customer the piece that they want. When I have asked over and over for a feature and been told "No, not Hamer enough" and then it shows up elsewhere, it pisses me off. As well it should, because the considerate thing to do would be to call you when they change their minds and say 'OK, we've decided to make that model now, so order away.'
DavidE Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Frankly, I think people are justified when they place a custom order, wait and wait to get it and then find that the company made a mistake on it. That would be maddening.I also can understand people getting upset when they find out Hamer says "yes" to a custom order or option when they previously told someone else "no." All justified if you ask me.But it doesn't affect me because I have no yearning for a custom made instrument.
KeyOfZ Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I got turned down on my 2004 Superpro for the Cognac finish because of the Artist Ultimates at the time. My second choice was Tobacco Sunburst. It kinda sucked at the time but now it doesn't really matter. They did approve some cool stuff on my Artist Custom though Birdseye top Sustainblock bridge Natural Burst finish Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard (seems to be becoming more common these days) Dunlop 6100 Jumbo frets Hamer has come through for me more times than they have said "No" so I am pretty happy with em right now.
pesocaster Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I have no complaints with the PesoPro..... However if it had been jacked up or left off something critical ... I would have lost my shit..... no doubt about it.....
