veatch Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 The EQ board used on the DuoTone, Vintage S, etc. I need one of the two black screws that holds the board to the control cover. Anyone know the size/thread on this? I think it is a 2mm, but not sure of the thread count. Tnx.
bubs_42 Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 Grab a 2mm and put it in, only 3 things can happen. 1. It goes all the way in until you tighten and it pulls your threads out. (Screw is too small) 2. Screw will not start and depending on how much to try to get it started it will F up your starter thread and you won't get anything in. (Screw too big) 3. Screw goes in and pull tight, all good. (Correct screw)
veatch Posted September 22, 2016 Author Posted September 22, 2016 Hate to continue the innuendo, but I don't have anything that, er, small. So if I'm a gunna order something, I wanna order the right thing. Local Ace didn't have anything that fit, either...

I've heard of this happening but have never seen it up close. Ace has always been my last (and usually first) stop when looking for smalls. I can't help with the sizing, but would recommend trying your local Fastenal (if one exists).
veatch Posted September 22, 2016 Author Posted September 22, 2016 Fastenal was my next stop, but i ran out of time for me lunch break...
Caddie Posted September 22, 2016 Posted September 22, 2016 IIRC Home Depot has a board in their Screw Dept. Bring your screw, they'll find a matching hole for it. If all these ideas fails go to the universal, tried & true fastener...Duct Tape. Cheers! caddie
HAMERMAN Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 I has a suspicion that something from USA of that vintage wouldn't be metric so I just checked an EQ board I have in my parts bin and the screw thread is 2-56 (US).
veatch Posted September 23, 2016 Author Posted September 23, 2016 Woot! Woot! Now we're talking... Thanks.

HAMERMAN Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 If you need to identify small hardware on any kind of a regular basis these come in very handy: SAE/Inch Screw Check'r Metric Screw Check'r
ptm1diver Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 If you need a really good screw, try a fiery 23 year old red head. If you need a really good screw, and are a cheap ....try a crack head.
velorush Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 If you have a Lowe's, locally, they have an isle full of all sorts of fasteners and the gauge cards to figure out size and threading of what you have. Very handy. ETA: if you have a NAPA store, they're very helpful, as well.
hamerhead Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 "I need a screw" "Oh? So how long have you been married?"
Biz Prof Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 Go to a hobby shop that sells model trains or scale models. 2-56 is a very common fastener used in HO scale model railroading.
