Back around 1999, I was reading a bass forum for the first time and came across a member talking about his gear and band and various shows/venues he's played......and realize the guy is talking about ME!! He was claiming he was ME. Totally freaked me out because it had stalker-like details. I was also wondering, who the hell would even want to claim to be me?? Why not pick someone really famous? So, I emailed the site's moderator, explainng "I was me" and this was some wacko, pretending to be me. I asked if he could check his member ID info to tell me who this really was and delete/flag his phony post. To make it worse, the website made me prove that I was the real me. It was like a bad Twilight Zone episode. It was especially creepy being early internet days and the forum being more like the old intimate bulletin board chat format. After a couple days, the mod was satisfied and tried contacting the poser, who then deleted his account and vanished. I never found out who it was.
Steve Haynie Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 For $1500 one might as well approach Steve Stevens directly about acquiring a ray gun.

Steve Haynie Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 I saw the link when you posted it earlier. Steve's signed ray guns are cool. My thought was that if someone is willing to shell out $1500 or $1800 for a Steve Stevens stage prop, they would likely want to acquire it directly from Steve Stevens. That kind of money is only going to come from a serious fan, and most of those fans are going to make contact if they can. It is the few gullible people that need to be protected from crooks. A friend of a friend has a collection of Gene Simmons Punisher basses. They include some custom finishes and some have been used on stage. If that collector should want something KISS related he knows who to contact directly. No one on eBay with stolen photos or scam ad copy is going to get his money.
Studio Custom Posted June 12, 2017 Author Posted June 12, 2017 He's down to $480 after three price drops yesterday alone. That is 73% of the initial BIN.

At a $25 initial purchase (that's IF he bought one from the SS site, which he probably didn't, so it's even less than that), his ROI will still be through the roof.

The one Steve sells is very different, and to be fair, not the one he uses on stage. The seller alludes to his was stage used, but offers no such proof.

I just figured it was some "wannabe" weirdo, who wanted to have something to talk about on the forum. It was the earliest 12-string bass forum on the web and the discussion was on 12- and 8-string basses. I was one of the only guys playing them full-time back then. But it was pretty creepy that the poster knew my gear and basses. So, I figure it had to be someone who was a musician and had been to a number of our shows, to know the models and brands. Even funnier than that....when I used to be a radio DJ, on three different occasions I was in stores and when I used my IDthey told me some other guy had claimed to be me to get a special discount on stuff. From the description, it was at least two different people. One was a discount on a stereo system, one for a new mattress....don't recall the other. The oddest part was that I had never used my radio gig to ask for a discount for myself. So it was pretty funny other guys were.

Did that guy later go on to pirate all the content and start a .net site by any chance?

No....THAT was an even bigger a-hole, as we both know. One of these days I should post all the emails he sent me badmouthing Hamer and Jol and Petersson....all while sucking up to them for interviews and content for his stolen website. Geez.

LucSulla Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 He's also selling an Aston Martin in another auction on eBay. Wonder if he'd do a package deal.
