scottcald Posted September 3, 2018 Posted September 3, 2018 Anyone know the exact screw size to fit theinsertsHamer used on the Centaurus and Diablos? Gota crazy week upcoming and I’d rather not go to places buying stuff that’s close or just plain wrong. Thanks!
tbonesullivan Posted September 5, 2018 Posted September 5, 2018 I know someone here had a few extras around... Unfortunately that was a while back, and I can't find the thread, as I think the length and thread pitch were there. I'll see if I have any info.
scottcald Posted September 6, 2018 Author Posted September 6, 2018 I tried searching but I didn't come up with anything. Thanks for checking.
cynic Posted September 6, 2018 Posted September 6, 2018 I may have some in a box. I’ll give a look around tomorrow and see what I can come up with.
scottcald Posted September 6, 2018 Author Posted September 6, 2018 Thanks, any insight is much appreciated.
scottcald Posted September 8, 2018 Author Posted September 8, 2018 Following up for anyone else who may need this. I had some time free up and went to Lowe's. They didn't have the correct thing, but the guy told me there was a Fastenal nearby which I didn't know. Took the screw there (one pulled from my Centaura). The guy told me the screw was 7/8" but they had 3/4" and 1", so I go some of each. I ended up using the 3/4" in the neck and middle and the 1" in the bridge. Had to buy a full bag of the 1" ones, but that was only like $3. Here's the info from the 1" bag should anyone need it:
scottcald Posted September 8, 2018 Author Posted September 8, 2018 Just further follow up, went to the Fastenal website and they do have the 7/8" #4-40 screws in black even: https://www.fastenal.com/products/details/0148796?term=Phillips+%234-40+pan+head+7%2F8"

This is actually something I've been struggling with given the number of mods I tend to go through. Mostly, it's converting ring mount to direct mount so, I've got the added fun of trying to track down the receiving inserts or opting to use pointed screws to go directly into the wood.
tbonesullivan Posted September 9, 2018 Posted September 9, 2018 You'll definitely need some new screws if you replace the stock neck pickup in many diablos: they are long legged SD '59s.

I didn't look them up, but they have inserts at Fastenal as well. I've gotten so much good info here, I'm glad to be able to return the favor. 5 hours ago, tbonesullivan said: You'll definitely need some new screws if you replace the stock neck pickup in many diablos: they are long legged SD '59s. My project already had the inserts. I'm using pickups I had already - PAF 36th, a Dimarzio single coil and a Tone Zone. It's mostly together, but I have yet to wire everything up.
cynic Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 I saw earlier that you'd found some so I didn't rush to dig through my boxes, but now that I have I do have black oxide #4-40 screws in .25, .5, .75, and 1.0 inch lengths, as well as the brass inserts. If anyone needs any, let me know.
scottcald Posted September 11, 2018 Author Posted September 11, 2018 Cool, obviously I don't need any, but thanks for looking. Maybe this will benefit others.
