Happy Canada Day!!

Recommended Posts

I know we have some fellow Canucks on the board,ย  hope you're having a great day!!

Weather is awesome here in Ottawa. Went for a nice bike ride,ย  then going to small bbq later.

We live near the Ottawa river, so at night we'll take a little stroll to see the fireworks.ย  Not going downtown,ย  keeping it chill.

Guess you haven't been to Calgary...

Actually I have. But only passing through on the train. Would love to actually spend some quality time there. Iโ€™m a east coast resident so itโ€™s easier and quicker to hit Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City. I never have been to a place in Canada that I didnโ€™t like. ย My relatives on my mothers side left Ireland and settled in Lindsay Ontario, a place I use to spend time in every summer when I was a kid. ย

Speaking of Calgary, I'm a big Banff fan.
Spent several months there between 2010ย & 2012.

I never got used to these scenes while driving through town. Breath-taking.

Here's my office (with the Tim Horton's on the side to keep everyone happy).

Beautiful! Have to admit I haven't been there.ย

My extended family is all on the east coast in new Brunswick (basically right above Maine).

Lots of great things about Canada, but our airlines aren't one of them. It's literally cheaper for us to fly to Mexico City than to go to the West.ย

I gotta make it out there!

Ottawa is one of my favorite cities.ย

Lived in theย area for four years, long ago. Not my favorite place.

Never lived in Calgary either! But I spent 12 years in Saskatoon (loved it), and visited Calgary often enough to put it on my short list of places I'd like to live.

I have a bunch of Tim Horton's stock, if that counts for anything.

I need to see snow...

Tim's is a religion out there and I was totally all in with it.

Here's your snow (the same ride as above a few weeks later).

The ride from Calgary Airport to Banff (above) is about 90 minutes of driving in a straight line due north.
Everything is so flat that you see something on the horizon and think, "I should be getting there soon," and then an hour later it's still visually the same distance away.

And here's the view out of the window of every restaurant/bar I went to.

I hate snow.

This is how those of us in the USA really think of Canada.ย

You think that's flat, tryย driving in Saskatchewan west of Regina. That's flat!

I walked four miles starting at 4:30pm today.ย  It was 99 degrees and the heat coming off the sidewalk had to make it 104 or higher.ย  The "the world is burnin' up" folks at The Weather Channel said it was 110 degrees on the "feels like" index, whatever that is.ย  The landscape in your pics is so foreign to me I can't even tell you.ย  I'll be at the beach tomorrow.ย  Waves are gonna' suck though.ย  But the scenery will be optimal... ย ย
