Woodstock '69 was a landmaark event, but ...

Say what you will, but I think the turnout at the 1970 Isle of Wight festival has Woodstock beat all to hell. 300,000 at Woodstock? Double that for Isle of Wight '70.

I'm not saying this to dis Woodstock; it was an incredible event with a profound impact on our culture, our news at the time, and the power of rock at that time. But the Isle of Wight festival by that time was h-u-u-u-u-ge!

Good golly.

That's a lot of people. And now they are all at least 70 years old.

Suppose you were there, in the middle of that crowd, and had to empty your bladder or worse?  What is to be done?

Like Shark, I shudder in horror.

One has to wonder who that woman is inside the fence, and how she happened to get there.

Nice P.A.

A rental from The Who.

Townshend was so disappointed by the volume at Woodstock that he decided that The Who should have their own monster PA and charge the other acts a fee to use it.

Shucks, Willie Nelson's July 4 Picnic was always good enough for me.

I was on leave in Kansas in the early 70’s, and one of my fellow crewchiefs pulled into my girlfriends driveway with a Winnebago bus. He said get in, we’re going to Willies concert!!... Sooo we piled in. I got pretty messed up. Had a ball!!! Turn’s out he stole the Winnebago. But we went back oversea’s so never heard anything more about it. Other than the fuzzy memories!!! I still laugh about the crazy shit that guy would do!!!

I'm partial with the Isle of Wight festival because of Taste's performance - What's Going On live has been one of hymns of my youth...

But I did listen a lot to my sister's three LP album of Woodstock. My favorite was the Allman Brother's rendition of Wipping Post.

FWIW, Lollapalooza 2019 is being live-streamed on three channels on YooToob this weekend from Grant Park in Chicago, looks like it started yesterday:

Watkins Glen in 73 was credited as 600K+. With the Dead, ABB and The Band all performing, and sharing the stage at several points. There were so many people there early for sound check that the Dead's check turned into two full sets. 🤩

Let me know when they play a casino with comfy chairs, drink holders, clear sight lines and state of the art sound and light systems.

In other words, you're too old for this shit.

It looks like they got a pretty good turnout, too.

California Jam #1 on April 6 of '74 at the Ontario Motor Speedway did OK too. And unlike Woodstock, everybody paid admission.

Yes I am. And I will add way too smart.

I was just messin' with you. Hell, I have always hated overcrowded outdoor concerts with underpowered sound systems and "festival seating," the latterer ensuring I'm uncomfortable during the concert and achey afterward. At any age.

I might add I’m accustomed to indoor plumbing over port a potties and prefer a ceiling over me to avoid sunburning my increasingly balding head but once the sunsets I’m prone to chills.
