NGD: more Dean

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

another addition to my home for wayward guitars. The red and white Dean has

quickly become my #1, didn't see that coming... so I plucked another one.

2012 USA Schenker standard.   The previous owner was prolific with the mods

(kill switch, coil tap, satinizing back of neck) so it's already apart in pieces in my

basement . The good thing is the neck and frets are great and it weighs about 7.5 lbs.

it had white duncans, (listing for sale)   going to install a Dean Leslie west mountain of

tone (these pickups are hot,  but cool, imho).  rewiring with CTS pots and an orange drop

working on the rhythm pickup.(going with black)   more to follow...

EDIT:   8/12     pulled the wiring, cleaned and polished it up, oiled the fretboard.    looks great.

I wired it up on sunday afternoon while watching the office...  still funny... I went with a set of

Dimarzio zebras  (super distortion in lead and a humbucker from hell in the rhythm),  took a sunday

afternoon... but everything came out right, no hum...     I could have probably ordered white

and black coils,  however they're a special order from Dimarzio (meaning you pay full retail, f that)

and I had the black and crèmes already...  sounds great.    there's one tiny extra hole...   just got a

black micro switch...  may or may not wire it up.

giving it a couple days to acclimate before I tweak the action/neck, but so far, it sounds great.

think I'm going with black bell knobs,  not sure I'm a big fan of getting too cute with bobbin colors,

knobs and all that stuff...    I had just given up a pretty awesome Gibson custom shop

explorer... but these two Deans are pretty solid.

Much better headstock than the paddle head vectors...

looks awesome and I bet it’ll play even better when you’re done with it.

Totally agree with that sentiment. But...I really wish Dean would offer this as alternative to the V-fork headstock, especially for the V and Z body shapes.83_Elite-06.jpg

You can order a custom shop guitar and a Shrimpfork MIGHT be an option. They have built guitars with that headstock. They were "Baby" Deans though and not a full sized guitar. Full scale but smaller body size. Thought I had a headshot but alas I do not.
