The greatest admin guy over there is Big Mike.  He always has a way of showing you the boundaries without being insulting.  A good guy.

When the lights come back on, contact him.

Yeah, no. He's a colossal tool, just like all the other TGP admins and mods. My opinion may or may not be influenced by my current permaban over there.

The fact that the prevailing demographic is men in their 40s, 50s and 60s and they replace curse words with asterisks tells you all you need to know about that forum.

Sorry Rausch, but I'm going to have to emphatically disagree with you here.
"Big Mike" (and my money is on "big" = "morbidly obese") is not only a colossal tool, but one of the most cowardly, inconsistent and priggish moderators I have had the misfortune of interacting with on any forum.

His inability to judge context, intent, or even display the slightest sense of humor is the perfect example of what makes TGP so incredibly lame.

As someone who doesn't frequent TGP (I think I have an account there...🤔) I gotta ask (I'm legitimately curious) - is the inherent value of being on there worth putting up with the BS I seem to read a lot about?

Now I am jealous.  Everyone is getting banned from TGP except me.  I usually just quit commenting when I get into a dialogue with "The Gear Page Tone Police", or "The Gear Page Neck Profile Police".

It's a good place to sell expensive shit to rich white guys who LARP as oppressed black sharecroppers playing blues.

Can only impart my experience with Big Mike.  He's always treated me fairly.  Folks who have a different opinion have just that.

I hate the Lexus dealer in my area, but I love the cars.  So, I just reconcile running into a few assholes with winding up with a great car.  Same thing at TGP.

The whole Matte Henderson thing was a total cluster.  Only Big Mike stood up for me (they actually had a vote to ban me for that guy being the asshole).  The real bone of contention was whether or not they could consider a private e-mail conversation I had with the little weasel.  Charlie and Mike banned him and took no action against me.  So, my perspective is just my own.

It reminds me of umpires in softball.  I can't tell you how many times over the years (in national tournaments) that me being kind and personable with sports officials has paid dividends in the future.  My mom used to say you "catch more flies with honey than vinegar".  Sage advice, if I do say so.  And Kiz knows I don't suffer fools well (remember Chuck on the Robin forum)!

If you had that kind of tax liability you'd have the blues as well.

Everyone knows authentic blues comes from having to schlep your PRS Custom 22 Ten Top and Two Rock, in your BMW SUV from your 4,440 sq ft house to the club and back.

I do find it ironic however how they pine away over $2,500 a week in income as some out of reach stratosphere, that's $130,000 a year.

That's more of a running joke, a la the $350 thing over here.

That said, TGP is something of a microcosm of society at large. You have rich-ass motherfuckers, broke-ass motherfuckers, and not many in between.

Of course, it's not a microcosm of society in that nobody over there eats fast food, cheats on their wives or taxes, has less than perfect credit or shoots cell phone video at concerts. Outside of TGP, all of that behavior runs rampant.

I only read the Small Luthier and Gear For Sale forums.  I don't have a virtual life there.  Too many assholes that have an opinion about something they've never done or an instrument they've never played.  So, I guess my exposure is limited.  By design...

I think - (only because I can't find it) - I got banned for saying something innocuous and true like Neil Young was an openly hostile and cantankerous interviewee who treated journalists like shit, and that anything he said about music quality would fall on deaf ears because of his combative posture and old man smell.....

I mean -- could I have been banned by an cantankerous old man smelling mod who's still holding on to his Pono player like it's his personal dildo?

I figured you would say something like that, and if you've had a good experience with the guy, that's great.
But it doesn't mean that he isn't a colossal tool.

On the other hand, my assertion that he is a colossal tool is documented - lol.

The two bottom emails were for the same thread: one where we were discussing "buyers" who ask a lot of questions and then never have a dime to their name. My assertion was that it is the people who ask for neck measurements and guitar weight never buy a damn thing.

Clearly that was too close to home for some guys and several snippy comments were tossed my way.  Never being one to shy away from that sort of thing, I jumped right in, but at no time did I make it personal or name-call or anything that might harm their fragile sensibilities.

Jim Soloway jumped on me saying, "Remind me never to buy anything from you."
I replied something to the effect of, "That was probably never going to happen anyway, but Duly Noted!"

Also in that thread douche bag extraordinaire, teefus, commented on a guitar I referenced which I had been selling a couple of years ago: a 1970 3 pickup Les Pail Custom.
My assertion was that when one of these comes up for sale in this condition, the weight is not something you concern yourself with.  These are not exactly plentiful.

I thought my response was appropriate, considering all of the BAMFs droning on and on about their medical ailments, regularly-scheduled marathon gigs, and whatever other excuse they could find for not being interested in a Les Paul Custom with some girth, other than they are broke-ass mother f**kers.Next thing you know, I get a warning from el Gordo.  Since I was only responding to attacks, his warning was not heeded. In fact it was vigorously ignored.Later that day I received another email from Fat Mike saying that some of my posts were deleted or edited. The post below was cited.

As you could imagine that was where Big Mike ended the dialogue. Apparently, Big Mike's balls are...well...Not.

Then there was the time back in June where some twat posted that he had purchased a partsocaster Tele and was all bent out of shape because the strings appeared to be shifted to one side of the fret board.
Those of you have been around the block more than once know that this is a common issue with bolt on necks, particularly after being shipped from one place to another.
The simple fix is loosen the neck screws, give the head stock a wack in the direction you need the strings to shift to and re-tighten the screws.

I, along with several members posted that very thing, but the OP kept carrying on about getting a pro to look at it, maybe sending the guitar back because it was "not as described", and leaving the seller negative feedback.
The more he was told how common this is and how simple the fix, he dug in his heels and protested.
Take a close look at his screen name if there is any doubt as to where the issue lies.

image.png

That response got me a week suspension - lol.

Now first of all, you have to give me props for taking his "tools" insult and turn it back on him, particularly given the context of his pissing and moaning.
And second, how is that replay worthy of a suspension while the person calling people tools allowed to continue on without a word?

I'm not sure how to explain how of all the mods on TGP, only one has felt the need to slap my wrists (there were other times not pictured, but I deleted those earlier emails in disgust a long time ago).  Morbidly Obese Mike is the only one from who I have ever heard.

But if you think he's a good guy, we'll have to agree to disagree. And that you're mistaken.

@kizanski "I have some suggestions for you as well..."  --- LOL -- that will do it.

I can't wait to see what and who banned me for literally ranting about Neil Young being a cantankerous asshole..... it's gotta be a 65 year old dude with a Neil Young poster in his room still right?

Here are two truths about the gear page.   No one in the history of the gear page has ever used or needed Cialis or viagra.      Nor does anyone admit their guitar is a cme Gibson blowout model when posting in classifieds.    It’s like 100’s and 100’s of cme blowout guitars evaporated into the atmosphere and nobody is marking up $1000!     Lol.       And tax legal and medical advice.  100 percent reliable!

Yeah, but he's getting paid for it, so.....

Kiz's story illustrates how TGP mods only respond to reported posts, a.k.a. grown (and in some cases elderly) men crying to M.O.M. As he said earlier, no effort whatsoever to consider context or the possibility that the person doing the reporting could be the asshole.

Their stock excuse is "this is a huge forum, we can't monitor everything." If you can't do the job, step down. Of course, that would involve relinquishing the only semblance of authority you have in your life, so that's not happening.

That kind of moderating is the equivalent of a cover band staring into iPads on mic stands because they couldn't learn the material due to their brats' hectic soccer schedules. Can't do the job? Do everyone a favor and quit.

That only means he thought Matte is a bigger asshole than you. Now, you have your moments, but that's a no-brainer.

The signal to noise ratio has certainly become more skewed over the years as the membership has grown.  Most of the value I have perceived over there pertains to the contributions of builders, artists and industry folks who contribute a lot of insight I wouldn't have gotten otherwise.  It does require more effort lately to separate wheat from chaff, but as far as inter-personal relations go, my experience has been that the mods' position is based in golden rule, don't-be-a-dick kinda stuff.  Never had a problem with Mike, and he's somehow a Dawgs fan, which matters.
