GC Drops Fulltone

Recommended Posts

Regardless of where you stand on this issue, this serves as a reminder that business and personal perspectives (and how they're expressed) don't always mix.

In the interest of not bringing politics to this forum, which is a haven of common sense......I’ll just keep my mouth shut.

Well that was really fucking stupid, regardless what side of the fence you're on. Most reasonably intelligent people understand protesters and looters are two separate entities, and blasting them as a whole on social media - especially when you rely on the public to feed you - is pretty short-sighted. Having exchanged several emails with Mike in the past, it's not a total surprise - he seemed a bit of a douche. Love that OCD, though.

So they are having a fire sale?

I just picked up a V2.0 and really like it, but I bought it based on hearing Elduave’s and playing others.  I have always heard that Mike is a huge douchebag though.

And yet Guitar Center still sells Mooer products even after they were caught ripping off electro-harmonix' software.  Apparently GC believes it is wrong to insult but OK to steal.

It seems that many corporations can overlook slave labor too...  😜

I know someone who oversees the licensed products of a well known entertainment entity.  She got to visit a Chinese factory, which was rare.  For her own sideline of products she has chosen to spend more money to avoid the virtual slave labor.  Some people still care.

That is nothing new it's been happening since the invention of the wheel.

I appreciate the sentiment but in reality GC, MF, Sweetwater, American Musical Supply, FIMC, Gibson and every mom & pop music store wouldn't have much to sell otherwise.

No virtue signaling opportunity with Mooer.

Well, I don't know the man but do have a Full-Drive 2 (which isn't going anywhere) and from what I understand he was making a comment about the government turning a blind eye in protecting innocent citizens' property. He only posted that after 4 nights of the rioting and looting. If I'm wrong please correct me as I like to seek the truth but it seems to be harder and harder nowadays with the internet, social media and the way the news is reported (or is it reported anymore? or just editorialized?). Anyway, once people jumped his shit and deemed him a racist he turned things back around on them and said that maybe his accusers were the racists by assuming that the law breakers had to be of a certain race when that's not what he wrote. Seemed like valid points.

Any business/person/celebrity risks bringing this knee jerk reaction to what's said so it's probably best just to keep your mouth shut and do your job. Some may disagree with me but I kind of liked the days when people were allowed to hold different views and you weren't being told how to act, speak, think, vote etc. constantly. It's their right to do it in this country but I just wish those people would afford the same courtesy to other people even if they don't agree with their views. Nowadays, it just seems like everything is so politically correct and groupthink and there's not enough individual thought...why think for yourself? If your skin is this color this is the only acceptable way to think/vote whatever. Oh well, Thanks for letting me vent!!

Anyway, our church is involved with an organization called One Race which is all about breaking down racial barriers. Some interesting things I've heard lately is that on the first night in Atlanta, out of over 25 people arrested, only one was from the state of Georgia, the rest were out of state agitators piling onto the peaceful protests for a variety of reasons and agendas. I believe that Mike was referring to that group of people. Even some black store owners who were looted in Atlanta were saying WTF does destroying everything we built up have to do with what they're protesting? Of course, who knows who's doing what?

For a little background, my mom came from Korea around 60 years ago. She retired from being a nurse in an Army hospital in CA after being a nurse in the Korean war. She received a lot of racist crap during her life, ironically a lot from black people. I usually attributed that to the basic pecking order of immigrants to this and probably most countries over the years. One of the worst was when she returned home from the hospital the morning after losing her husband, knowing she was going to be raising two kids on her own, only to find written really big on our sidewalk "Go home Jap!" ! Apparently they saw my dad being taken away the night before. It was doubly insulting as she was born in Korea into the Japanese occupation of her country! But, we probably all looked the same to them. Anyway, she never lost faith in our great country or took it upon herself to become a victim. She was/is a strong woman! Anway, my sister and I received some crap but less. My son in law is a black man and he and my daughter have had guns in their faces from Police that totally seemed entirely unnecessary yet I still support police in general as we also have some of those in our family. I think just like there are bad people from any race there are some bad cops too. People from various races would like to be judged individually and not for the bad actions of a few of their kind, and I feel police would like the same respect as well. We all probably have a lot more in common than the media would like to portray but I think they'll continue to peddle division as that's what sells. Again, thanks for letting me vent and sorry to get all autobiographical touchy feely with you... must be my time of the month or something!! 🙂

I mostly think CEOs, company presidents, and so on should stay the fuck off social media, doubly so when they are pissed about something.  Sometimes you say shit you mean when you're pissed, but a lot of times, it's just half baked crapola you're going to regret five minutes after you post it, which is to say I don't think this has to be what he meant even if he said.  Could be, but also may not be.  Personally, I'm not going to do a deep dive on the Fulltone guy to figure out what he thinks about race and riots in America.

On a different forum, we could argue if the content of what he said makes him a jackhole or not, but I'm actually glad that sort of convo is banned.   However, from a purely economic standpoint, I think the guy is a jackhole for being knowingly inflammatory either way.  Unemployment is through the roof, and no one knows when the pandemic is going to end.  Yet a company president gets all in his feels and risks his whole damn company to beat his chest on social media?

I'm not in the camp that thinks the main purpose of a company is to provide jobs per se, but likewise, I think a company president has an obligation to consider what his comments mean for his company.  I don't know how big Fulltone is, but I'm sure he's not the only one working there.  Him deciding to go all alpha dog on social media probably just took food off some tables that would have been there otherwise, and all in the pursuit of what exactly?

Also, to add to what's been said, yes, there are some people who just hop onto bandwagons to look good or cool.  But, there's just as many who jump down the throats of those truly seeking justice and equality for the sake of looking tough I suppose.  And I agree, it's all too easy these days to whip out the phone and post.  But yes, people should stop and re-read and give it time before they do and post deliberately, not off the cuff.  Most think they're good extemporaneously, but they're not.  Hell,  I re-read posts 99% when they're here and I'm just asking about a capacitor or volume pot or something.

Perhaps it's because we're both Southern-bred, overeducated, rural hipsters (I jest, of course), but I see this exactly as you do. It occurred to me more than once over the last several days that while society looks to "leaders" for their statement of opinion and/or pearls of wisdom on the events of the day, many corporate CEOs (admittedly, I'm not convinced that Fulltone is large enough for Mike to fit the typical corporate CEO mold)  are so far removed from both urban ghettos and proverbial small town USA that I'm not sure they're qualified to comment as knowledgeable observers on grassroots social unrest.  Music tends to be one of history's truly universal languages, therefore it would seem logical for musical instrument/equipment manufacturers, intermediaries, and retailers to take into consideration that their customer base is likely to be more diverse than nearly any other construct of an interest group or community.

I’ll allow comments to stand as this far, things have been civil, but let’s not get one millimeter closer to politics or we’ve gotta nuke this thread.

There are plenty of other places on the Internet for that, and we embrace all here.

Haha, I don't know... I think that shoe may fit in my case, as much as I'd love to tell you that I hate a hipster.  Probably a classic case of projection on my part.  😂

I'm quite proud of the calm, logical, and sober reflection displayed in this thread thus far (even Kiz' dictum).  'Tis a rare find on the interwebs these days.

Yeah....this is just the way business is done anymore.  The latest count I've seen is 57 of around 370 were from out of state, and you can bet they represent the entire spectrum of good and bad (regardless of one's perspective).  Throw one rock at a cop and you just transformed one man's peaceful protest into your very own unlawful assembly.

it's not enough to virtue signal, you have to know the right virtues to signal at the right time...

Fixed.  (Sorry - I didn't read past the 1st sentence).

I'm right there.  I stopped actively doing the Facebook thing.  The outrage porn on Twitter got the point where I don't even log back in.  I have an Instagram account, but that's for Paige Spiranac's highly educational and technical videos on how she likes to handle a putter.
