0054
Johnny Thunders, The Buzzcocks (dual jrs!), the Vapors, The Clash. The swirl the air, the grunt!! Vintage P90s are my favorite! 45 minutes ago, Willie G. Moseley said: FYI the October issue of Vintage Guitar (Peter Green on the cover) dissects Mott the Hoople's '71 album Brain Capers for that issue's retro-review "Pop N' Hiss" installment (p. 50). Mick Ralphs advised that he used a Les Paul Jr. through a Sunn amp...and it shows, sonically. My personal favorite Mott the Hoople album, and it failed to chart in both the UK and the US. Is that the record that has the click on the drums? I remember listening to the album so many times, then reading about it and then... it's all I could hear! crunchee
I don't think anybody mentioned this song yet: BTW, Macca was playing his P-90 equipped '62 Epiphone Casino to do the solo on "Taxman"
crunchee
I tried to edit my above post to include this tidbit of information, but for some reason couldn't...apparently, the distortion on Revolution was created by recording the guitars directly into the studio control board and overloading the input and/or preamp: https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/the-beatles-john-lennon-isolated-guitar-revolution/ The Beatles "Revolution" video above had live vocals, but I'm guessing that the instruments probably weren't...so, if you're trying to get that sound from a Blackface Fender Deluxe Reverb or Deluxe (no reverb) amp, you can likely stop now. Rockola
You are all forgiven. A quick one while he's away. First thing I played when I met JackC. At the 6:30ish mark. Yeah, that's is it. That kinda cemented it. Cellos ?
Gino
Larry Carlton on Blues Bird: Tune was played on a P 90-equipped Guild Bluesbird, I think. Song always gets me goosebumps...
Rockola
On the LC, I bought that album when it came out. (the ladies don't want to hear MSG or caress of steel on a date) They had a contest in GP mag to win a guitar from any song on the album. That was the one I chose. So I hope it finds me, eventually. duncans
Overplayed for years in the Chevy ad, Bob Seger's' Like A Rock, Les Paul TV thru a Dumble. Rick Vito is the man. I think my favorite slide solo ever. Also Aqualung, Jethro Tulls' Martin Barre, a Hamer guy too! I love that solo.

santellavision
Nobody mentioned Steve Marriott in Humble Pie. OMG. Steve just killed with his Epiphone Coronet/P90. (Humble Pie - Rockin' the Fillmore, a deserted Island record for me)

Willie G. Moseley
^^^^Speaking of the SAHB, whatever pickup(s) and guitar are cranking out those power chords on "Faith Healer" on the live album sound huge. Dunno if they were P-90s, however....

tbonesullivan
Wall Street Shuffle from 10cc definitely makes me think of a P90. I looked for more info and did find a live video showing Lol Creme using an LP Junior with a P90 to play it. There's just nothing like that P90 bridge pickup Overdrive sound. There's nothing like that neck pickup sound either. Can't live without them. Also, speaking of P90s, there's always these guys:

I used to watch that VHS constantly till it wore out. The Dirty Mac doing Yr Blues is also incredible. Edited to add the aforementioned Dirty Mac clip- because Lennon's Casino is totally applicable to the thread. Also, dig Clapton's sweater.

Some great guitar tones on those two albums, Santana and Abraxas. Yeah buddy, when I mentioned to my nephew I was lookin' to try some different pickups, he says "Try some P90's". Told him I never heard P90's, he says " You grew up on Santana, the first two albums, he used an SG with P90's". Never knew that !!! Clean and raunchy at the same time. Heard rumor that David Gilmore used a P90 guitar on that "Brick in the wall" solo, wonder if that's true !!!
