Dutchman 2,320
What a relief!!! I guess the attack of a pick is offensive to some....
killerteddybear 7,547
I never learned how to use a pick well on bass, but guys like Graham Maby make me wish I had.
G Man 1,952
The injustice of it all! Seriously though, I think Bobby Vega did that years ago.
crunchee 5,378
Sometimes I use a pick on my fretless bass, for a harder attack and to fake the sound of a fretted bass, when I don't want to change basses. I can always change back at the literal drop of a pick.
specialk 3,794
Doesn't it depend on the color of the pick? Jes' sayin'…
Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame 2,509
Interestingly, I cannot sing while playing bass with fingers, but I can sing while playing a bass with a pick. 2 1

That is exactly why I play bass with a pick! I spent so many years playing guitar with a pick and singing I can’t do both on a bass without one! If I’m not singing fingers work great... conditioning or something like that!!

The hardest bit for me is playing bass (in any manner) and singing high harmonies. Nothing but rote muscle memory will get it done.
