Willie G. Moseley 3,495
Spector gets appropriately profiled as an eccentric (and not-necessarily laudable) genius in Waiting for the Sun, Barney Hoskyns' excellent 1996 history of the evolution of the L.A. music scene. As Hoskyns' tome was published before the Clarkson murder, one can only speculate how that would have been chronicled in the book. I stumbled across Waiting for the Sun for three bucks in a Dollar General, of all places, but its straight-on, uncompromising style made it a keeper. And in a publicity photo of the Teddy Bears, Spector's late '50s vocal group, he looks eerily like Pee Wee Herman...

ARM OF HAMER 2,843
It has always been said that "GENIUS" borders insanity. In music IMHO he was one, but as a human being.......................... obviously not so much.

There seem to be far more than I had ever imagined. I dunno if Spector gets to rest in peace, if not rather turning hell into a wall of sound. 3
crunchee 5,378
Apparently, he was crazier than a shithouse rat for a long time, long before Lana. He kinda reminds me of Roman Polanski's on-screen character in Chinatown, slicing open Jack Nicholson's nose from the inside out with a stiletto. Some of these Phil 'stories' get repeated here (with variations), but they're still worth reading: https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/28392/5-artists-reportedly-held-gunpoint-phil-spector https://www.liveabout.com/weirdest-phil-spector-moments-2523028 https://www.cheatsheet.com/entertainment/the-album-john-lennon-described-as-the-worst-time-of-my-life.html/ BTW, all those 'unkempt'/'meticulously coiffed' hairdos? Wigs. Without 'em, he looked like Gollum from Lord Of The Rings: https://pagesix.com/2021/01/17/how-phil-spectors-hair-disappeared-behind-bars/ Edited January 18 by crunchee

The Ramones "...When an exhausted Dee Dee Ramone said he was going home one night, Spector reached for his revolver. “You’re not going anywhere,” he said. The bassist replied, “What are you going to do, shoot me? Go ahead. I’m leaving. Goodbye.” (In another version of the story, the gun was pointed at Johnny Ramone.)..." In yet another version of the story, Marky Ramone said, "There were no guns pointed at anybody. They [guns] were there but he had a license to carry. He never held us hostage. We could have left at any time" So, who knows?
