My brother called me today and asked why am I  selling the Standard on Craigslist?  I said because I was going to use the money to pick up an all original 4 digit.  He said you'll never find another Hamer with a top that beautiful so what if it is retopped? He's right. Gonna hang onto it at least for now.

Thanks for the comments.

When they refinished it, did they do the top in the thin 2-piece veneer like the originals had, or did they put a 1/4" thick maple cap on it?

They put the 1/4" top and milled it down, not the original-style veneer.

Actually, I was under the impression that it was the 1/4 inch cap but it may be the veneer. You may be able to tell at the pickup routs.

As much as I love the newer Standards with the 1/4" maple cap, the older ones with a thin veneer over the one-piece mahogany body just resonated like an old violin.

My '73 Fender still doesn't sustain anywhere near my '81 Standard Bass.
