Oh hell yeah! I'd buy it just for the bar... and I don't play bass (very well). That is way f-ing cool!

I wonder how those p'ups sound?

Clarke has been involved in a number of limited edition basses over the years. Here is a link to one from a decade or so ago.

https://www.lieberguitars.com/guitars/spellbinder-siblings/

Way back before that he did a limited run in what may have been the first collaboration with Tom Lieber. It bears some similarities. The story was that they did 125 before breaking the mold. Another story says one extra one was made in LF for Paul McCartney. I have not seen one on the market for years, when someone offered  a pair in mint condition for a tidy sum.....$8k or $10K IIRC. There was at least one other such run, in a modified design several years later.

Short scale, ebony board, molded body. I stumbled on one in a small shop in the SF Valley a long time ago. Probably in the 90s. Or maybe late 80s. I loved the fretless bass and it was dead cheap. Has had a lot of play wear. The case is stenciled with "SCTL Project". Someone tried to tell me it was not authentic, as they did not come in a fretless version. However, I did get a confirmation from Clarke (or whomever was responding from his team that day) that they did in fact make "a few" in that run. I have never seen another.

Still have it stashed in the closet here. It should get more use......God only knows the value.......

ETA......With a little searching SOME info pops up, not necessarily all reliable.......

Piccolo tuning is just a string change.
So, buy two and you're covered!

Mandocello too, which is what I'm thinking would be spectacular for this type of funky bass 8 string thing i mentioned previously. If someone made this, I would figure out a way to get it.

I've often thought of reworking a cheap guitar into a mandocello. I've seen others do it.

I recently bought an Epiphone J200 type that had a full mandocello conversion done to it and the top could not manage the string tension. I noticed it right away and returned it because while it was playable right now - in 5 years that top would've collapsed upon itself. Nope and no...can't bother with that.

An electric mandocello with a vibrato tho? As a bass player, this is heavenly!

Giving a Bass player a whammy bar to play with is like giving Viagra to 15 year old boy!  😁

True but it's a great way to get whammy bar-appreciative guitarists a reason to pick up a bass. :P
